How to Deal With Slow App or Game Download Issue on Xbox One

Solution 1: Check your Xbox’s network connection & downloading speed

Solution 1: Check your Xbox’s network connection & downloading speed

At first, check the network connection. A slow or high downloading speed both depends on the network connection. The downloading speed decreases when the network connection is weak and increases with a good connection. Subscription plan of the internet connection also matters, if you have a good subscription plan and still the downloading speed is not good your plan then you should check the speed you’re getting. First, pause the downloading app or game.

  1.     From the Home screen, go to ‘My games & apps.’
  2.     Then go to ‘Queue.’
  3.     Highlight the game or app that is downloading or in a queue.
  4.     Click the ‘Menu’ button on your Xbox One controller.
  5.     Then select ‘Pause installation’ for each item.

Next, close running games or app:

  1.    From the Home screen, go to running game.
  2.     Highlight the game and click the ‘Menu’ button.
  3.     Then select ‘Quit.’

Now, test your network speed:

  1.     Click the ‘Xbox’ button.
  2.    Open ‘System.’
  3.     Select ‘Settings’.
  4.     Go to ‘Network.’
  5.     Then ‘Network settings.’
  6.    Select ‘Detailed network statistics.’

Wait, the console will start the connection test and show the network or download speed. Compare the detected speed with your subscription plan and check whether it is okay. If you’re receiving a lower speed, then this could be the reason you’re facing the issue.

Solution 2: Close running games or programs

If you’re running a game require internet connection, then to give an excellent gaming experience Xbox constrained background downloads. To get a better downloading speed, close the running games.

  1.    From the Home screen, go to running game.
  2.    Highlight the game and click the ‘Menu’ button.
  3.     Then select ‘Quit.’

Solution 3: Reboot your console

  1.     Hold down the ‘Xbox’ button.
  2.     And choose ‘Restart console.’
  3.     Select ‘Restart’.

This will pause the downloading games or apps and shut down your Xbox One. Downloading will automatically start when the console starts again. You can verify that the downloads have resumed or not, by following the below steps.

  1.    From the Home screen, go to ‘My games & apps.’
  2.     Then go to ‘Queue.’

The downloading items are shown as “installing” if instead of this, you’re seeing “Queued,” or “Pause” then click the ‘Menu’ button and choose ‘Resume installation.’ Now, check if the game or app is downloading fast.

Solution 4: Cancel the installation and install again

If the solution above fails to resolve the issue, you need to cancel the installation.

  1.     From the Home screen, go to ‘My games & apps.’
  2.     Then go to ‘Queue.’
  3.     Highlight the game or app that is downloading.
  4.    Click the ‘Menu’ button on your Xbox One controller.
  5.     Then select ‘Cancel.’

After canceling the installation, start the downloading again. Once the game begins installing again, check the downloading speed.
