How to Check Hard Drive Space in Computers and Smartphones

Do you want to know know how much storage space is left on your device? Sometimes you try to install an app or game, but it will fail to download. Maybe this is happening because you don’t have enough space on your device. Therefore, you may want to check the hard drive space of your device. Here is how to check the storage space of your Windows, macOS, Android, and iPhone device.

How to check hard drive space on Windows

1.    Press the ‘Windows logo’ key on your Keyboard or click the ‘Start’ button.

2.    Click on the ‘Settings icon.’ It is the cog icon at the corner of the start menu.

3.    If the Settings menu does not appear on the screen, then click the ‘back’ button.

4.    Click the ‘Back’ button until it will not become invalid.

5.    On the main Settings page, click ‘System.’

6.    Select ‘Storage’ from the left panel.

7.    Below the “Storage” heading under “Local Storage,” you can see your computer’s hard drive status.

8.    Click ‘This PC’ to view more details regarding storage.

The filled side of the bar is showing used space, and empty side is showing free space.

How to check hard drive space on Mac

1.    Click the ‘Apple’ logo at the corner to open Apple Menu.

2.    Select ‘About This Mac’ from the top of the menu.

3.    On the opened window, switch to the ‘Storage’ tab.

4.    You’ll see a color-coded bar on your screen. This is the hard drive status bar.

5.    Above the bar, you can see how much space is available from total storage.

6.    The color of the bar is telling about how much space is consumed by Photos, Apps, Movies, Audios, etc.

7.    Hover the mouse cursor on a color to know about exactly how much storage is used by it.

How to check hard drive space on iPhone

Hard drive space is the only type of storage that you can check on an iPhone.

1.    Open iPhone’s Settings.

2.    Open ‘General’ settings.

3.    Scroll to bottom and tap on ‘iPhone Storage.’

4.    You’ll see a color-coded bar on your screen. This is the hard drive status bar.

5.    Above the bar, you can see how much space is available from total storage.

6.    The color of the bar is telling about how much space is consumed by Photos, Apps, Movies, Audios, etc.

7.    Scroll down to view hard drive space used by apps.

How to check hard drive space on Android

1.    Open Android’s Settings.

2.    Scroll and tap on ‘Apps or Storage & USB.’

3.    Under ‘Internal storage,’ you can check your hard drive status.

The filled side of the bar is showing used space, and empty side is showing free space. On Samsung, you need to switch to “SD card” tab.
