How Muslims Can Bring Down the Costs of Lesser Pilgrimage

by Safeena Rahman Travel Addict

Hajj and Umrah are the two Islamic pilgrimages undertaken by millions of Muslims living in different parts of the world every year. The major pilgrimage and one of Islam's five pillars is Hajj, which is mandatory for all financially and physically capable Muslims and must be performed at least once in their lifetime. Umrah, also known as the 'lesser pilgrimage' or 'minor pilgrimage' is not compulsory. However, it is held in high regard by Muslims across the world, as it is the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). It can be accomplished at any time during the year, but the major pilgrimage is performed in the month of Dhu al-Hijjah.

There was a time in the past when Muslims across the world had to depend on a travel agent specialising in Islamic religious tours to get their journey to the holy city of Makkah arranged. Today, many tour operators or travel companies offering such tours have come up in different parts of the globe and this has given a wide range of options in Umrah packages for those wanting to perform their lesser pilgrimage. An increase in the numbers of tour operators has also brought down the cost of packages offered for performing the minor pilgrimage.

Muslims who wish to perform their lesser pilgrimage can reduce the overall cost of their journey by booking any of these packages. They can book the desired package several months in advance and lower the costs even further. However, they have to decide their dates much earlier to book the package of their choice in advance and get a considerable amount of discount. These dates include the date of departure and the number of days they wish to spend in the holy city of Makkah. Once they have decided the dates, the booking must be done without any delays to get the best deal.

In recent times, it has become a lot easier for Muslims to book their packages for their lesser pilgrimage as almost all the tour operators have their presence online in the form of attractive and user-friendly sites. They have all the packages listed on them and categorised according to seasons or months when they are made available. As the internet has become easily accessible and more affordable than ever before, all the prospective pilgrims can now browse through the available packages with greater ease. Most of these websites are also mobile-friendly, which means that they can also be accessed easily using today's smartphones.

By signing up on a few of these websites, the Muslims can receive alerts on some attractive deals and special offers that are released from time to time. However, such offers are usually available only until a specific date and must be availed immediately to be eligible for the discounts from the tour operators or travel companies. It would be quite annoying to keep deleting all the unwanted promotional emails and text messages frequently, but there would be times when a wonderful deal or special offer appears in the alerts.
