How Long Can a Whoodle Live?

by Alice Garten Writer

Whoodles generally can live between 10 to 12 years. Whoodles tend to have a longer lifespan than most purebred dogs by at least a few months. Each moment counts when it comes to your best friend or family. It’s the same thing for your Whoodle, and there are many factors that can affect its lifespan. You have control over some of those factors like neutering, and some, such as genetics, you don’t.

What is the Leading Cause of Death for Whoodles?

The leading cause of death for this breed of dog is cancer. Although Whoodles get their outstanding strength from both sides, they can also inherit the possibility of common diseases in both parents. In order to find other diseases they could get, you can look into the common diseases for both the Poodle and Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier, or you can get a DNA test.

Is It True That Whoodles Live Longer Than Purebred Dogs?

Yes, typically, a Whoodles lifespan is longer than the purebred breeds due to the strength of both parent dogs. Doing research, you will find that mixed dog breeds tend to be healthier than their pre-bred parents because of this thing called Hybrid Vigor. Hybrid Vigor is sometimes called Heterosis, which is when you mix two breeds with a particular trait that you better in the offspring. This won’t remove all risks associated with the parents, but it can definitely increase the fitness and healthiness of your Whoodle.

How to Help Your Whoodle Live Longer

Spaying or Neutering

There are a lot of people that think the only reason for spaying or neutering your dog is to take out the possibility of an unwanted litter. Still, it will actually prevent or even eliminate the

possibility of some diseases and cancers. It will help make your Whoodle live longer.

Find a Good Diet for Your Whoodle

Do some research and find the best type of food to feed your Whoodle, and if you are in need of something extra, talk to your vet and get some supplements. The food you give to your dog is very important and can either have a positive or negative effect. All food brands are different, and you must find the perfect one that suits your Whoodle. A dog food brand that I have found to be excellent is the Purina Pro Plan dog food. You can buy it in-store or online, whatever way you prefer. On Amazon, where I get it, it is between $37-$47 for an 18lb bag, depending on if you are getting it for a full-grown dog or a small puppy. The puppy food will say, “Glucosamine in our bagged puppy food helps support developing joints and cartilage. Calcium, phosphorus, and other minerals help build strong bones and teeth.” There are also some other helpful benefits, such as guaranteed live probiotics for your Whoodle.

Have a Clean Environment

Keeping your dog safe is a very high priority, which means that you need to keep all dangerous things out of reach of your Whoodle. Especially with a little dog, you need to be extra cautious about what you have around your Whoodle.

Conclusion

Your Whoodle’s lifespan will significantly impact you and your family. Still, now that you are more knowledgeable in this area, you can start your journey to a more enriching life with your wonderful Whoodle. There are many factors contribute to the lifespan of your Whoodle, but with the proper care and attention, your furry little friend will be with you for plenty more years to come. If you can’t take care of a dog properly, don’t adopt one!
