How Game of Thrones Stole the World’s Attention

There are a number of different ways in which the series that is Game of Thrones shines, and it is these areas of great mastery that have allowed the show to become one of the most loved television programs. From both a viewership and international acclaim perspective, the show has achieved great things—and it is actually quite easy to see why it was met with such a positive reception from its viewers, too.

How the Show Trumped Every Other

The show itself actually managed to achieve viewership of over 19 million people for its finale at the end of season 8, and throughout the course of its life, it was continually praised for its incredible themes and plot points. This, in turn, has arguably made Game of Thrones one of the most popular television series ever aired, and is also largely responsible for the incredible number of awards and praises that the show received over the years! Indeed, Game of Thrones won the most number of prizes ever at the Primetime Emmy Awards for the drama category, and had numerous other incredible achievements throughout its lifetime as well. But what was it about the series that actually stole the world’s attention, to make it one of the most popular television series ever?

In short, it can be argued that the biggest selling point of the show is due to its sheer unpredictability. A common concern among viewers and critics alike is that characters that are important are often blessed with “plot armor” that allows them to wriggle out of the tightest situations. This was not the case in Game of Thrones, where main characters were regularly killed off (especially in the earlier seasons) leaving everybody on the edge of their seats.

In addition to this, the show thrived thanks to its excellent mastery of the “medieval realism” theme. The writers and producers made it so that viewers could connect with and empathize with characters, despite the outlandish setting and plot, which was a real selling point of the show for sure.
