Basic Clarity About IELTS Exam

IELTS is the abbreviation of the International English Language Testing System, which is widely used in different colleges and universities worldwide to measure the English proficiency of the candidate. This globally recognized test is accepted in almost every college and university in Canada and there is a certain score requirement for distinct levels of education. The IELTS exam is conducted by British Council, IDP Education Australia, and Cambridge English Language Assessment. Even though the IELTS General exam is mandatory to attain Canada PR but that is a different category. IELTS exam bands are between 1 to 9 and it is not based on a fail or pass system. There are four modules, namely- Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking, and attempting all four sections is mandatory to get an overall score on this test. Let us explain the calculation of overall bands with an example- A student scores 6 bands in Reading, 7 bands in Listening, 6 bands in Speaking, and 5 bands in Writing, then the total of four modules is 24 divided by 4 (as an average) = 6 bands. Usually, an overall of 6 bands is required to apply for a Canada study visa but it may vary based on different situations and college requirements.
