It came into the limelight when a twitch user used this green frog with a humanoid body. And all of a sudden, it became an internet meme, and everyone was talking about it. 

What is Pepega? And its Origins

In short, Pepega is a green frog cartoon character who came in origin in a 2005 comic book by Matt Furie called Boy’s Club, and he gave a catchphrase to the character. People online refer to it as a sad frog but only those who are unaware of it. 

When the internet picked it up, it became a meme, and people started using it differently with several emotes and lines. 

Pronunciation of Pepega

People pronounce the word differently all around the world. Some of them pronounce it as Pepe-ga, peh-peu-ga, or some of them use pepu-ga, but the real pronunciation of the word is peh-peyguh. 

It got attention overnight in 2008 when some users started using it to refer o someone who is stupid. And initially, it was accompanied by retard slang. That’s how it started in the mainstream internet language. And since then, it has become a go-to emoji for a person or thing that looks stupid to them. And twitch popularized this platform more than anyone in the world. The twitch users kept using it, and they have a custom emoji for Pepega now on the platform.
