How Do I Extend My Ethernet Cable to Another Room?

by Martin Peels Content Writer

Most homes have a feature of a single, centrally located point for connecting to the internet usually in the form of a wall pallet. If you want to add a second option or second point through your room a network cable extension to another room can be used to make a connection. Though Wi-Fi is a convenient way to connect the computers in your home without dealing with the hassle of wires and many of the users now depend on an Internet connection to offer full functionality. As the internet is being used in TVs, various 4K-capable streaming devices, gaming consoles, and computers. Wireless may be the way of the future, but adding a network cable extension is the best way to go wired where it counts.

For instance, there are a lot of devices that offer enhanced functionality when connected to the Internet. Even though in many cases, the Wi-Fi signals in some areas of your home might not be strong enough. Even if the Wi-Fi is available and functioning, there can be instances where the internet is not reliable, fast or secure. So this clears out the air that an Internet connection with a wired connection can be quite useful.

The Reason To Extend My Ethernet Cable Connection:

Of all the instances, there can be several reasons why users may want to move their cables connection or broadband router. It may be because the Wi-Fi coverage around your home is not good enough, as mentioned above, or is not able to give the speed you would have liked or that you would like it near your TV or game console equipment so that you can hard wire your Smart TV’s and game consoles.

So the problem of getting a Wi-Fi connection to every corner of a building is not uncommon. If you are having zones in your house where the internet does not reach, don’t despair. Whatever the size and bandwidth you require for your home or building, you can take steps to remedy the problem.

The very first thing anyone would try doing is moving their routers. For many, this is one of the primitive solutions to any technical problem, however it can make a significant difference. Try to position your router somewhere in the middle of your house, or as close as possible to the devices that are going to need it. To ensure that your Wi-Fi speed does not interfere, avoid placing it in a room with concrete or brick walls or with any such wireless devices. There can be ways of positioning routers so that they are not somewhat limited by the location of the internet feed while positioning it properly can be a quick and easy way to eliminate dead zones. If you don’t want the hustle of moving it or directioning it, just buying a longer connecting cable or a network cable extension between the router and wall socket can give you more room to play with.

Note that, when you are getting your cable extenders positioned, keep in mind that the newer devices such as laptops, phones, tablets and other devices will have Wi-Fi adapters that are more sensitive and powerful than those on old hardware. But how does running a long cable extender help?

Whether you opt for cable extenders or long ethernet cables through walls, floors, office space or in basements; these can deliver a great connection to a distant room as well. Hiring someone to lay down the ethernet wires for you is not always the easiest or cost-effective method to opt for. Rather a cable extension can be a worthy option by setting up a few cabled access points. All you need is a cable extender and some spare ethernet ports on the back of your router. Moreover, it comes with two key advantages: security and speed. With a wired connection, there is nothing that can interfere with the internet signals and the work that needs to be done and there will be less chances of other people snooping into your activities as there would be no physical access to the router for others.
