How Console Can Hurt Players Win Chances in Call of Duty: Warzone

by Nishant Gujjar SEO Executive
Following up on the legendary games of Call of Duty comes Call of Duty: Warzone, the battle royale version of the world-famous first-person shooter. This game changed the standards of battle royale games by all the different features that it brought into play from the very first day.
But one such aspect of the game that was highly requested by the players, the feature of cross-play. This feature was highly requested by the gaming community for a long time but introducing it became a topic of immense controversy. Often console players turned off cross-play during their sessions because of the players on the PC version cheating, but that might not be the only problem console players will be facing.
This debate of the PC players having a distinct advantage over the console players is not new, and definitely not the first game where it was called upon. But a new video proves that there is some disadvantage, and this can’t be fixed by any setting in the game’s menu.
The FOV or field of view is a really important aspect in a first-person shooter genre game, as that is the very thing you see while playing, FOV is how much you can see at a given time. The difference that emerged between the console and the PC players is that the PC players can adjust their field of view, they can adjust it to see wider although at the expense of a lit bit of accuracy. However, in the console version of the game, the field of view is locked.
In a video released by a player, when seen from both the console and the PC’s perspective, the difference can be seen as night and day. In the video the player is gunned down by the opponent, in the console version, the opponent is not visible, but strangely enough, the same clip if seen by a PC version player, the opponent is visible properly. This makes a huge difference in a game such as Warzone. This issue clearly comes down to the FOV
Going to the root of the cause, you can see that the “Field of View” on the console version is locked at 60, but if need be, the FOV can be taken up to 120 in the PC version (although increasing so much will severely affect accuracy). One easy answer to this problem is to just switch off cross-play, and the problem stops being a problem. But the players who want to play with friends across platforms don’t benefit from it. And for the Xbox One players, they can’t turn cross-play off in Warzone except by doing so through the system settings, a move which results in the incredibly long lobby waiting times. This often makes the case as to why Activision and Infinity ward won’t just give the console players the option to adjust their FOV as well.
In defence of the game developers, the reason why the changing of the FOV is not an option in the console version is that many of the older generations of consoles can’t handle the increased FOV. But still, it seems like players would like to have the settings and try it then not have it at all, but in the meantime, there is nothing that can be done.
