How can you use the Dubai Metro?

Being one of the longest driverless metro networks in the world, the Dubai Metro is something which is used not only by the local inhabitants of Dubai but also by the millions of tourists coming to visit Dubai. The metro is designed for relieving the traffic on the roads of Dubai. Dubai metro is almost 80 km long and features a total of 49 stations covering all the major locations of the city. It is one of the first urban train networks in the Arabian Peninsula. 

If you are planning a trip to Dubai, then using the Dubai Metro will be a very good option as it saves time and money. As you know the fact that Dubai is costly and so as the private transports like local taxis and cabs. About the train lines:

The Dubai Metro is driverless and fully automated metro network which runs partly in the underground and partly through elevated viaducts. So far there are two lines constructed one is red line another is the green line. The red line is running from Rashidiya to Jebel Ali while the Green line runs from Al Qusais to Dubai Creek. Redline has a total of 29 stations and the Green line has total 20 stations as of now. However, the Dubai metro is going to extend their network until 2020.

Metro fares:

Now coming about the fares, for a single journey, your fare will range from Dh1.8 to a maximum of Dh6.5 depending on how much distance you’ve covered which is very less compared to private cabs. However, with that fare, you can also have the privilege to use public buses for the same distance as well as metro. Elderly people and students will receive a special discounted metro fare.

If you are visiting Dubai for the first time, then it will be quite hectic for you to find the transport and communications from the airport itself as Dubai International Airport is very big. People come to the airport and confuse about the way they want to go. Here in this article, we will provide you the basic guidelines about Dubai Metro so that you can use it while traveling with ease. 
Simply you can buy a ticket for your destination from the metro station and you are ready to roam around the city. Or else you can go for one NoI top-up card which is very efficient and easy to use. In order to avoid the long queue in the Dubai Metro, NoI card is the best option. Recharge the amount and travel hassle free.

How will you reach Dubai Metro from Dubai Airport?

After landing from the flight, you can reach the Dubai Metro from the airport itself. If you head directly towards Terminal 1 or Terminal 3, then you can reach Dubai Metro. You will find Redline in the airport that runs from either Jebel Ali or Rashidiya. Well, we will suggest you catch the Jebel-Ali bound train for your metro city tour. 

•    After entering the station, you will find the ticket counter and buy the ticket while letting him know about your destination. 

•    Tap your card against the card reader to enter the gate. Wait for the green light, then you can enter. 

•    Once, you enter the station, follow the directions on the board, you will reach to the platform from where you will board the train. 

•    Follow the guidelines marked in the floor if you are looking for a particular cabin. 

•    Listen to the announcements made inside the train. Once your destination comes, get down from the train and come near the exit gate.

•    Keep your card with you as you will need that during the time of exit.

•    At exit gate, your ticket or NoI card will be required for exiting out the station. 

Again, follow the directions to the metro station, you will be able to find the gate that will lead to your destination.

Things to remember: - 

About the trains:

You will get the train at the interval of 10 minutes and during the peak times, you don’t have to wait much as you will get trains at 3 minutes of interval. Remember that, you should be careful while boarding and deboarding the train as the door will remain open from 18 to 20 seconds.  

NoI Card:

If you have planned to use Dubai metro, you should not forget that you need to buy a NoI card as cash is not accepted in Dubai metro. With your NoI card, you can travel hassle-free not only in Dubai Metro but also in Waterbuses, buses, etc. Keep your card with you while traveling through Metro.

High cleanliness:

You are not allowed to eat or drink on the train as well as in the metro station. However, there are metro stations where you will find many food joints as well as restaurants where you can eat and drink. But within the premise, it is strictly no.

Safety facilities:

Do not misuse the safety facilities present on the train or in the metro station, otherwise, you have to give the penalty. 

Allowance of pets:

For hygiene purpose, Dubai Metro doesn’t allow any pets inside the train as well as in the stations. 

Frequencies of trains:

In any special festival and events, in order to cope up with the crowd, the number of trains will increase. Apart from that, the frequency of the train also increases. The gap reduces from 10 minutes to 3 minutes during the peak hours.

Train Timings:

The trains usually run from Saturdays to Thursday from 6 am to 11 pm and from 2 pm to 12 am on Fridays.

Numbers of passengers per car:

The design of each car is made for 643 per 5 car train. However, it can carry up to 900 passengers at its peak capacity. The structural design is made to carry up to 1150 passengers. In one train you will find 142 seats. 

Classes of train service:

There are three classes you will find in the trains of Dubai Metro namely Women & children, gold class, and silver class. You cannot enter any of the class if you don’t have the ticket of that particular class. 

Important stations you need to know:

Deira City Centre: 

Here, you will find the Deira City Centre Mall, which is the center for more than 340 shops and restaurants. 

Dubai Mall and Burj Khalifa:

In this station, you can see both the iconic attractions of Dubai Mall and Burj Khalifa. A Metro Link Bridge is there through which you can reach these areas. It is an air-conditioned walkway of 828m long. 

BurJuman:

It is an important station where you can have the scope to change from red line to the green line. The station is nearby to many famous attractions in Dubai such as BurJuman Mall, Spice Souk, Gold Souk, Textile Souk, Dubai Creek, etc. Dubai Creek is the area where you can get access to many kinds of popular attractions of Dubai.

Mall of Emirates:

From this second, you can easily hop on to the second largest mall in the city, i.e. Mall of Emirates. Shopaholics, this is the ideal destination for you. You can complete your trip with the indoor ski slope. 

Dubai is a place for unlimited opportunities. It is a city that welcomes all kinds of tourists as you will find attractions that will entertain tourists of all ages. You can hop on and hop off through the city while using Dubai Metro in a quite cheap way. However, there are some places where the metro is not connected. Hence, to reach that place, you need to use any other public transport or private transport based on your conveyance.
