Homemade Facial Mask Ideas for Glowing Skin

by Eng Hou Ng Online Entrepreneur

Are you looking for homemade facial mask ideas that incorporate those natural nutrients that work to keep your skin healthy? Any mask that utilizes plant oils, and vitamin and plant based antioxidants will directly benefit the healthy glow of your skin.

A good homemade facial mask is a type of hydrating mask that stays on your face for 20 to 30 minutes and actually penetrates the skin providing moisture to the next level. Many tightening or cleansing masks are different colors and harden as they stay on your face, but a honey hydrating mask is almost clear in color. You may even forget you have it on.

If you feel like your skin has lost its glow, you need to find a good honey facial mask to give your skin a boost. Everyday cleansers are applied to our face and then quickly wiped or rinsed off so there effects are minimal. Their purpose is really to cleanse the top layer of skin and remove makeup, mascara and eye shadows.

You can do this by making your own facial mask. Homemade facial masks are cheap and easy to make, as well as being very effective. Some facial masks are expensive to buy and why bother when you can do it in the comfort of your own home. The basic principle is putting food on your face. What could be so hard about that!

The application of any homemade facial mask is the same. First cleanse your skin, and then apply your mixture. Leave to set for approximately 10 minutes before removing with warm water. Dry the skin gently before applying a natural moisturizer.

When you are making your own honey facial mask, make sure you choose a good quality honey as its main ingredient. Manuka honey is a product of New Zealand and has a 16 plus rating which means it has the highest level of antioxidant properties.

Honey has been recognized as a topical solution for a number of major skin issues, so you at least know that what you are putting on your skin is natural and safe and not going to create further problems down the road.

If you have acne problem, honey is an ideal choice because it is a natural acne treatment that has little side effects. Whereas topical ointments and creams leave your skin dry and irritated, honey locks in moisture on the skin and makes it softer and suppler.

A honey facial mask is both cheap and easy to make: just dip a sponge into a bowl of honey and apply a thin layer on your face while gently massaging the skin. Keep it on for about 10 minutes, and then rinse off with water.

Over the years I have also made/used many facial masks using other natural ingredients, but I wanted to share with you the ones that have been most effective for me. The following are my Top 6 Homemade Facial Masks.

The Classic Egg White and Yogurt Homemade Facial Mask

This has to be the easiest of all the homemade facial masks, which is why I call it the classic! Composing of just 2 ingredients and under 3 minutes to prepare, this is a quick and easy way to better looking skin.

Ingredients: - 2 egg whites - 2 tablespoons of plain yogurt

How to: Simply separate the 2 egg whites and place in a bowl. Add in the plain yogurt and mix together. Apply to your pre-cleansed face and leave for 10 minutes, before removing with warm water and then apply a moisturizer.

Coffee and Cocoa Homemade Facial Mask

Probably the best smelling of any face mask. This is another very simple face mask to prepare and very effective for rejuvenating your skin.

Ingredients: - 4 tablespoons of ground coffee beans - 4 tablespoons of cocoa powder - 8 tablespoons of plain yogurt - 2 tablespoons of honey. (This is typically for dry skin, so you can substitute this for lemon juice if you have oily skin)

How to: Grind the coffee beans and the cocoa powder in a bowl. Add in the honey and the yogurt to form a dense mixture. Apply to your pre-cleansed face and leave for 10 minutes, before removing with warm water and then apply a moisturizer. The key to this is to ensure that the coffee beans are very finely ground to avoid any damage to the face.

Lemon Juice Homemade Facial Mask

This is a facial mask for oily skin.

Ingredients: 1 teaspoon of honey, 1 drop of sweet almond oil and 3 drops of diluted lemon juice for a homemade facial mask.

How to: Mix all these ingredients together. Apply mixture to face, let stand for 15 - 20 minutes then rinse with water.  Gently dry with towel.  This helps reduce visible signs of pre-mature aging.

Banana and Honey Homemade Facial Mask

For sure these ingredients you can find around the house and again super easy to prepare.

Ingredients: - 1 banana - 1 tablespoon of honey - 1 tablespoon of orange juice

How to: Very simply mash up the banana and mix with the honey and orange juice to form a paste. Apply to your pre-cleansed face and leave for 10 minutes, before removing with warm water and then apply a moisturizer.

Egg Almond Homemade Facial Mask

This is more a facial mask for dry skin as the almond oil is a miracle worker on dry skin. This is another facial mask using just 2 simple ingredients.

Ingredients: - 1 egg white - 1 teaspoon of almond oil

How to: In a bowl mix the egg white and almond oil together. Apply to your pre-cleansed face and leave for 10 minutes, before removing with warm water and then apply a moisturizer.

Cat Litter Homemade Facial Mask

Before you ask what? Yes, you have read the title correctly. This does in fact use cat litter as the source of your face mask and yes, it does work. The cat litter must be 100% clay cat litter for this to work so make sure you read the bag correctly before purchasing.

Ingredients: - 1 bag of 100% clay cat litter - Water - Essential Oil

How to: In a bowl place 1 tablespoon of the cat litter and mix together with water and a couple of drops of the essential oil. Apply to your pre-cleansed face and leave for 10 minutes, before removing with warm water and then apply a moisturizer.
