Hiring a Mobile App Developer: Getting It Right

by Apps True AppsTrue

If you run a business, then it’s highly likely that you will benefit from a mobile app. They aren’t appropriate for every business, but for many, they prove an asset. The difficulty with mobile apps often comes from hiring the wrong developer. Below, we are going to teach you what to look for when choosing an app developer.

1.  Understanding of your industry

The best developers will have an understanding of your industry. This allows them to get creative with the features of the app. They understand your industry enough to know which features will work, and which won’t. For example, with restaurant app development, a good developer will understand the various foibles of the industry, such as allergy listings.

Of course, you can always liaise closely with the developer to make sure that they are offering you what you need, but this will be more expensive because you’ll take up more of their time. If they already understand your industry, it means less work for both parties.

There are some industries where this isn’t possible. It’s highly unlikely that you’ll find an app developer that has a decent understanding of the whaling industry in Outer Mongolia – that’s too obscure.

2.  Choose someone local

Choosing a local company will offer you much more recourse for action if things go wrong. If things go wrong, you can contact your local trading standards, or you can spread the word amongst local businesses. Their reputation is at stake so they will ensure that they work to the highest standard. Choosing a company that’s too far away can be problematic, especially if they're working out of another country entirely. In this case, it things go wrong, you have very few options available for recouping any money that you might have lost.
