High-Performance Fabrics Are Used For Upholstering Commercial Public Seating Arrangements

by Peter J. Blogger

Nowadays customers demand both function as well as fashion when it comes to choosing commercial upholstery in Sydney. And that’s the reason why functional or high tech textiles have already made their way in the commercial textile market in Australia. These textiles are soft and come with elegant designs. They can withstand the abuse of visitors, patients and guests but still look good. Fabric innovators have successfully created fabrics which are resistant to odor, heat, UV, wrinkle, water and stain. They have incorporated the use of new fibers, innovative weaving techniques and chemical treatments into their standard manufacturing practices.

The fabrics that are used for upholstering commercial public seating arrangements nowadays generally offer increased resistance to abrasion because of the amount of traffic, which the furniture encounters. But their durability and performance is determined by several factors like use and construction of the furniture, its care and maintenance and so on. Hospital and lobby seating, the seats of a restaurant, family visitation seating in the nursing homes take tremendous amount of abuse and use. They can resist tears and rips but retains their appearance by offering excellent soil and stain resistance and colorfastness.

Recently, the textile industry in Australia has even used nanotechnology for increasing the functionality and improving the performance of textiles. This use has in fact resulted in upgrading the existing finishes of the products. For providing improved performance, the textile applications of the nanotechnology have focused primarily on utilizing nanosized chemicals and nanostructures. The features of this technology include barrier performance to chemicals and water, reduction of the static electricity and electrical conductivity, UV protection or absorption and self decontamination and antimicrobial.

A lot of commercial upholstery fabrics for use in hotels, restaurants and nursing homes are made with microfibers. They are impervious to bleach, felt markers, wine and food. The microfibers can enhance the fabric hand to offer a soft touch and luxurious feel. When these fibers and ultrafine fibers are knitted or woven into fabrics, end products are the compact structures. The weave may create waterproof or water-repellent fabrics that enhance soil and stain repellency by allowing the spills to bead up and roll off before they break in the fabric.

In healthcare market, the antimicrobial finishes basically function by destroying or finishing the microorganisms and preventing bacterial growth. They remove the unpleasant odors as well as toxic substances and are flame retardant, bleach cleanable, totally waterproof and stain resistant.
