Guide to Swap Your Old Transmission With 4L80e Transmission

by Olivia Grey marketing professional
What is Transmission?

A transmission is simply a machine used in a system of power transmission. This is most commonly used in an automobile. It basically provides a controlled and measured application of power in the vehicle. Most often it is seen that transmissions are simply referred to as gearbox that uses gears and gear trains for providing speed and torque conversions from a power source that is rotating to another device.

What is 4L80 e Transmission?

4L80 e Transmission is actually a series of automatic transmissions. This is self-shifting and a type of motor vehicle transmission that has the capability to change the gear ratios automatically as the vehicle moves. This process frees the driver from the hassle of manually shifting the gears. This is designed specifically for longitudinal engine configurations and the series includes four forward gears.

A Guide to Change from Old Transmission to New 4L80e Transmission

It is needed to change the old transmission and put in a new 4L80e Transmission. This change enhances the performance of the vehicle. Gearstar.net provides quality 4L80e Transmission to give the vehicle a new life. The steps and the necessary parts required for this change are as mentioned below.

97 + 4L80e Transmission: The older versions might work but with the necessary modification. Hence, below 97 is not recommended since it was not strong enough.

4L80e Transmission Mount: This is required to fit in the transmission. A customized converter is essential to fit the transmission but the mounting spots on the LS1 Style flexplate are still being used and it undoubtedly good.

Transmission Crossmember: A new transmission cross member is required since 4L80 e does not have the TQ arm on the transmission. The latest cross members have mounted on the cross member itself for the mounting of the TQ arm.

Slip Yoke: A slip yoke is required for a th400 transmission and one needs to be very careful with this particular one since there are two to three different types of output shafts on the 4L80 e. In some of them even there are splines all the way up till the steel “O” Ring whereas some have splines that are up to the half way up, then there is a small gap and finally the steel “O” Ring. Hence, it is very important to remove the tail shaft to confirm to see the one that is present and then proceeds further.

Wiring Harness and Adapter: A wiring harness and a harness adapter are required since the old harness plug will not work with the new 4L80e.

Dust Cover: This is optional but can be used for better protection from the dust particles.

Trans Cooler: If there is a trans cooler with the previous transmission then it is fine otherwise it is recommended to purchase one. The bigger is the trans cooler the better it is.

Hence it is seen that what steps need to be followed and what parts are required to effectively change the old transmission to the new 4L80e.
