Google is gearing up to add a new depth to the experience on Google Chrome.

Alphabet Inc. is at the point of minimizing the gap between the company Chrome operating system for laptop and mobile operating system platform, Android. It is assumed that Google is planning to come up with a huge amount of the Android apps that are present on the Google Play Store for the accelerating user base of Chrome OS.

Chrome OS is primarily an operating system that runs on Linus kernel which is similar to operating system Unix. The system powers the company’s Chromebook range where its expertise lies in running the web apps and accessing the user data and application from the cloud directly. An experience has been reported by a Reddit user on the Chrome OS.

Chromebooks that are powered by the version 51 of the Chrome OS now show a box in the setting section stating, “Enable Android apps to run on your Chromebook.” The recent option that merely surfaced out of the blue tends to disappear instantaneously; the source code of the OS suggests that the users of Chromebook will now be granted permission to access more than a million games and apps that are present of the Google Play Store.

At this point of time, the Chrome OS that encompasses the feature is being offered only to the Developers Channels as of yet. All those Google users who were lucky enough to experience the version state that they were able to power the feature. However, they only succeeded to watch an online tutorial before it closed automatically. This furthers adds fuel to the speculations, many analysts claim that the company is prepping the rollout for the Google’s annual I/O conference that is scheduled next month. This is the reason why it has been made inactive for users.

This is not the very first time that the company has come up with a plan to make Chrome OS and Android apps go hand in hand. The company initially decided to come up with Android apps on the software of Chromebook back in 2014 such as Vine, Sight Words, Duolingo and Evernote. The initiative started off by offering a free trial for programs and applications that was later increased in April, 2015. This was in parallel to the broad launch of the App Runtime for Chrome (ARC) Welder app.

The source code of Chrome OS which contains the feature in question also encompasses the option of ARC opt in. as per the details generated by Ars Technica, the module can be overhauled for Chromebooks so that it can render support to more than a million apps that surface on the Google Play Store.

So far there has been extensive debate over the idea of linking the Chrome OS with Google Play Store but if the company has finally made its decision then this will make the Chrome OS users very happy. It is also believed that the move will increase adoption, engagement and flexibility of the Android platform all over the globe. The move will strengthen the demand for Chromebooks in the long run.
