Google is Testing an App and Game Subscription Service Named Play Pass

by Hayate Abul Digital Marketing

In the era wherein XaaS or Anything as a Service is being chosen by organizations as customers are heavily preferring the pay-as-you-go models, it seems like even the premium applications available in Google Play Store may switch to the pay-per-use pricing model. As reported by Android Police, Google is now testing an app and game subscription service named Play Pass.

In March 2019, Apple introduced Apple Arcade – a game subscription service. The company had announced that the service would be featuring more than a hundred games. Users will be able to try any games from the curated list, and the games will be all-you-can-play. Google’s Play Pass is quite similar to Apple’s game subscription service.

Using the Play Pass, subscribers will be able to try their hands on the latest apps and play their favorite games without any lags or ads. As per the details released, the Play Pass subscribers will be able to choose from a curated list of several apps and games.

The new service incorporates apps as well as games. When it comes to apps, the lists will feature fitness trackers along with premium music streaming apps, to name a few. The apps outside of the entertainment category shall also be devoid of advertisements and in-app purchases. It is not known if the Google Play Pass shall be released for Android TV.

The main focus of Google Play Pass is games. Stardew Valley, a popular farming simulation role-playing game, can be played for free once you get a Play Pass subscription. Unlocking of the in-app purchases will be done for offering a smooth gaming experience.

Soon you will be able to go to the Google Play Store and then check out the Explore Google Play Pass segment. It will show you the list of applications and games that Google thinks you will like. All the listed applications and games shall be branded with a fast forward button.

With Google Play Pass, you can use apps and play games with zero interruptions. It will make your experience free of purchases and ads. You can cancel it whenever you want and can also avail the family plan. By paying a single fee, you will be able to unlock several apps.

As per the reports, Google has confirmed that Play Pass is under development. It is yet to be known when it will be released though. The subscriptions fees will be around 5 US Dollars.
