Ghee Butter Recipe: What is ghee made from?

Ghee in the diet is extremely helpful in maintaining a healthy body and mind. But, what is ghee made from? This is a common question for health freaks. Cow ghee is extremely beneficial for our diet. Use ghee as a cooking oil, or spread over toast or melt over veggies, ghee offers excellent taste on every use. Multiple researchers have found ghee to be extremely healthy and risk free for people of any age. The making process of ghee is time consuming. Ghee can be from different dairy animal’s milk. Cow milk, sheep milk, goat milk and even buffalo milk is used to make ghee.


What is ghee made from

But cow ghee is the most nutritious one, and we will discuss how to make ghee from cow’s milk. Ghee cones in different varieties depending on what process it has been made. Grass-fed ghee, cultured ghee, organic ghee, and infused ghee varieties are also available in the market. Organic cow ghee is made by using pure cow milk cream. 

  • The mill cream is churned with the help of a wooden churner or electric blender until the butter forms and sticks to the churner.

  • Now the formed butter is separated from the buttermilk and washed in ice-cold water several times.

  • This is the unsalted form of butter that you can use for making ghee. Let the butter boil in a heavy bottom pan in a medium heat and cook until the milk solids are separated.

  • Now strain the mixture through a cheesecloth to remove all the milk solids. Now strain the pure ghee in an airtight container. This was all about what ghee is made from.
