Getting TV aerial polarisation correct

by Tom Smart Smart Aerial & Satellite Installations
One of the most common thing that people get wrong when installing TV aerials/ antennas is that they don't account for the way the signal is actually transmitter transmits the signals.

The vast majority of TV aerial transmitters will be broadcast the radio waves in a vertical or horizontal polarisation, very rarely do the do both. So that when you physically mount the TV aerial onto the mounting pole the aerial needs to be adjusted accordingly so some investigation on the TV transmitters in your area will be required to get this right. For people in the UK I recommend the UKfree TV site for all the information you will ever require on the UK transmitters.

It may seem un-important step but if you get the aerial polarisation wrong you will receive a dramatically weaker signal which will be far more likely to block, freeze and Pilate.

It is very common for people in my area when performing aerial installations in bexhill that they may wish to turn the existing TV aerial which is fed from the Heathfield transmitter to the Hastings transmitter which both have different polarisations so it would be important to alter this as well as the aerial alignment for the best TV signal.
