Get Your Basics About Your DSLR Right

by Sophia Cruz BUSINESS
As a beginner, it is very normal to be totally unknowledgeable about your new DSLR camera. Using and adapting to a DSLR can be a long learning process and advanced photographers will typically have taken several years to understand all the things that can be done with one. The best thing to do is to get basic photography lessons from a photography school. Here are a few things that you need to know about photography learning.

Shooting modes
This is the first thing to grasp and learn. Now, there are many shooting modes in today’s modern cameras and it is basically what is going to decide how the camera is going to behave when you press the shutter. The modes you can choose are Auto, Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority, Program Mode and Manual Mode. The best way to start learning what each one can do is to practice.

What is ISO
Basically, in photography terminology, ISO is how your camera gets affected by light. Depending on what the shooting conditions are, you can choose your ISO setting from low-sensitivity to high-sensitivity. This way you can control what the amount of light will be to achieve a particular exposure. When you choose a low sensitivity, there will be more light which helps you achieve a given exposure while high sensitivity is required where there is low light in order to achieve the same exposure.

The Exposure Triangle
The ISO, shutter speed and the aperture form the exposure triangle and they are ultimately responsible for the amount of light that enters the camera. Understanding how they all work together and how they are used to create the perfect shot is important. They are linked and they can be used effectively to create the right shot.

Right on focus
Another one of the most important DSLR photography tips is to get the focus right. No matter what shooting mode you are using or what ISO you have selected, you will typically have a subject you want to focus on. If you are unable to achieve focusing on that subject, the photograph will not be something you were looking forward to. In any given camera, you will have a range of autofocus modes to choose from. The two most important to master as a beginner are AF-S or Auto Focus Single and AF-C or Auto Focus Continuous.

File types and sizes
This is something all good digital photography tutorials will teach you. You need to learn about how to save your images so that you can get the most out of them. You can change the size of the file after you have taken the image so it is best to choose to save them in the largest size possible. This will ensure that you can make the most of out of the mega pixels. Also, you can save your files in JPEG or RAW form. The RAW type is perfect if you want to do a lot of processing because it comes with quite a bit of image data. The JPEG will be automatically processed by the camera itself and may be the type you choose depending on your needs.

A good DSLR photography course will cover all the basics you need to get started.
