Future Career Streams for Mechanical Engineers

by Nishith Dave Professor at Engineering College
Mechanical Engineering has been in existence for centuries, and with the growing number of mechanical engineering colleges in Gujarat, more students look to extend their careers by studying the laws of mechanics.

From elementary objects like wheels to the always necessary screws, from automobiles to aeroplanes, from bridges to skyscrapers, all of them work on the principles set out by the laws of mechanics. Thanks to mechanical engineering, the efficiency of the machines have increased, and it has become simpler to produce them.

Below are some promising streams that students of mechanical engineering colleges in Vadodara can follow to further their career:

  • Nano-technology: Nano-engineering is principally used in the field of medicine and research. It is used to generate materials that are not influenced by natural factors like climate, corrosion, etc. Materials designed by nano-engineering are light in weight and far stronger than other materials. The structural integrity of the substances is changed to impart enhanced properties to the materials.
  • Biomechanics: A promising field of the future. Bionic is the term used for the artificial material or object that simulates the action done by a human body part or organ. The functionality of the bionics largely depends on the principles set by mechanical engineering. Bionics is a field where we can witness the wonders of what the future of mechanical engineering holds and its application in day-to-day human life.
  • Automobiles and aviation: Mechanical Engineering has helped in construction of the fastest cars that are capable of traveling more than 400 kph and in the making of the most comfortable and luxurious vehicles for people. The gigantic Boeing airplanes that transport millions of people from one corner of the globe to another in a matter of minutes are the result of extensive development and application of mechanical engineering.
  • Structural Engineering: Mechanical engineering plays a crucial role in the planning and construction of tall and differently shaped buildings of the future. Enormous structures like the Burj-Khalifa, Taipei 101, and many other towering buildings use structural engineering for designing the intricate plans for the building.
  • Robotics: Latest robots can walk, run, climb stairs, interact with people, and do a lot of other things. For all those actions the robots need to work like humans, and mechanical engineering helps in the functioning and movement of the robots. Robots are the future, and mechanical engineers play a crucial role in bringing innovation to this field.
