From Phonograph to Bluetooth Music players, this is how music players have evolved

Long ago, there was a time when a song was composed almost instantly during journeys and festivals or while engaging in farming, climbing mountains, and fishing or even while making a baby sleep. Such songs are now known as folklore. Those days, there were no recording studios, just a group of people following the lead of the initiator or composing the music one sentence per person. Later, as the music began to become an integral part of civilization, few started taking it as a professional career and entertained people by forming bands and performing live.

Today, music can be played on many devices, from home theatres to portable audio players to iPods. The evolution of how music players evolved is a fascinating journey from the big bulky phonograph to light-weight and portable Bluetooth devices.

  1. Phonograph & Gramophone

The journey of music players started in 1877, Thomas Edison invented the phonograph which was first ever device to record and play back sound. Though the sound was scratchy and muffled compared to modern music, it was the first step towards the future of audio players. In 1896, Gramophone had hit the market which played recorded music stored in a disc.

  1. LPs & Radio

In 1940s, the Long Players Records (the one with rotating vinyl disc) gained popularity and still is regarded as one of the classiest audio players. Almost decade later (1954), first transistor radio was invented which allowed listeners to enjoy music anywhere as the radio was fairly portable.

  1. The Cassettes & Walkman

At the beginning of the 1970s, cassettes were invented and quickly became a favourite of all as it came with much better quality. In 1979, Sony introduced first ever personal stereo called Walkman. The Walkman was no more just a brand name but was informally referred to as a noun in the following years.

  1. CDs and MP3 Players

In 1982, Compact Disc came into existence, and within two years, portable CD players flourished in the market. While the market was still overwhelmed with the CD players, in 1998 MP3 player was released which played audio files without a need for external media like cassettes or CDs. This device changed the way people listened to music.

  1. iPod and upwards

In 2001, Apple introduced iPod, and it became mainstream in a short time. Then onwards began the era of digital music and many variations of devices were produced with each one better than the previous. Music streaming became popular, and now, we have music on almost all of our devices, from laptop to smartphones.

Out of all the innovations in music players, the best and most long-lasting one was the invention of the portable music players. One of the best portable music players of 2018 in India is the Saregama Carvaan Premium. With its cool retro look and stunning sound quality, this audio player comes with Bluetooth, AUX, Radio FM/AM and USB Drive. The device comes with 5000 evergreen Hindi songs pre-loaded inside it, categorised by lyricists, actors, singers, music composers and specials which can be selected simply by turning a jog-dial. Also, the coolest thing about Carvaan Premium is that it comes with an App to complete the experience of a modern audio player.

Out of all these, we love the LPs and the retro style Saregama Carvaan! Which of the above music players is your favourite one?
