Forex Market: Understanding the Basic Concepts

by Joan Bradley
Although there is a great demand for forex markets there are very few people who know exactly what forex markets mean. Forex or Foreign Exchange Market is one of the leading financial markets in the world which is worth more than $3.2 trillion and there are traders all over the globe that make trades and exchange on regular basis. As per the information available, forex markets generate triple the amount of money that is generated by US Equity and Treasury Market together. This is why more and more people are now flocking towards forex market where they can make big money quickly.

The forex market does not have any specific physical location because traders handle the entire transactions online and operate through different banks and corporations and even through individual buyers and sellers. They prefer trading in different currencies which are doing well in the current forex market. However, there are four major currency pairs available which are usually preferred by the traders globally because they provide better deals.

The top four currency pairs that traders and market professionals prefer are:

  1. EUR/USD

  2. USD/JPY

  3. GBP/USD

  4. USD/CHF

Earlier, not many people were interested in forex markets because the entire trade was handled by large banks and financial institutions but today with the help of technology many money managers and individual forex traders have made it easier to handle dealings from different locations. This means that forex trade marketing can be handled from any location that one prefers.

The most important thing that you need to remember when you think about forex trade is how one currency will fair against the other. If you feel that the second currency will fare better than you should quickly make deals to buy the second currency that will have better market value. Eventually, the deal should provide you with profit in the near future because you can then make a reverse deal and buy more of the first currency at a better price.

If you are trying to enter the forex market you need to remember that there are two ways to deal in forex market.

Spot Market – Spot Market is a virtual market place where traders buy and sell currencies at the current market price. There is a constant supply and demand chain happening in the spot market and traders buy and sell currencies depending on financial performance, trade response, current interest rates and even political situation for that currency.

Forward and Futures Market - In this virtual market scenario there is no trade happening between two currencies. Instead, the traders keep check on the current price of the currency and how it will behave in the future until a certain date of settlement.

In the last few years the rules and regulations of forex trade have changed and therefore brokers today do not operate the market alone. There are many software and applications available in the market that allows individual traders to handle their trade alone from their home without going to the financial markets.

Some of the top trading platforms or softwares for trading are eToro, AVA Forex, Easy Forex and Forex Yard. These platforms are also the best forex brokers out there. Traders who are new to forex market can even make use of the demo accounts available where they can learn how the software works and how they can make things work out for them.
