Forbidden Love: Housewives and Prescription Drug Abuse

by Fusion 360 Studios Digital Marketing Specialists

This theory of housewives and stay-at-home mothers who abuse prescription drugs has become an increasingly severe epidemic. Like all addictions, many factors contribute to the issue. However, for most users in this demographic, abusing prescription drugs is so easily justified. Prescription medication is legal, easily accessible and is initially given to the user by a specialist for a legitimate medical condition.

Why Are They So Dangerous?

Perhaps the most dangerous element about prescriptions are how seemingly innocent they are. Many housewives don’t understand just how addicting and harmful these drugs are, and would never dream of doing harder “street” drugs with similar effects.

Unlike many hard drug addictions, ingesting prescription pills is subtle and easy to hide around a husband and kids. Many addicts are great at hiding their habits. If family members knew what they were doing, they would contact a rehab center to help beat the addiction. Some addicts can abuse drugs for months on end without anyone noticing.

Commonly Abused Prescription Drugs

According to specialists and drug rehab administrators, prescription drugs most frequently abused by housewives and others in that demographic are Opioids, depressants and stimulants.

Opioids are painkillers, typically prescribed for severe aches, pains and injuries. When taken excessively, opioids can produce a euphoric effect, which may be the leading cause for many addictions.

CNS depressants are used to treat anxiety. Common drugs include Valium, Xanax and Prozac. The reasons for abusing these types of drugs are quite straightforward from a busy mother’s perspective. Depressants slow down the operations of the body and mind, making a day’s work less hectic and stressful.

Stimulants are most commonly prescribed to those diagnosed with ADHD and narcolepsy. Commonly referred to as “uppers,” stimulant drugs give users an extra boost of energy and focus to go about their days. Common prescription stimulants are Adderall and Ritalin. Many mothers and housewives will become addicted to their newly discovered level of productivity the drug produces.

Most drugs are highly dangerous when taken excessively, and can ultimately be fatal if one continues to test their limits. If this sounds like you or a loved one, contact a drug rehab center that best suits your needs.
