Following SC Notification, SEC Publishes Final Ward Boundaries List
by Suraj V. Digital Marketing (sr. SEO Expert)According to the latest reports, the State Election
Commission (SEC) has published the final list of the ward boundaries for the
236 electoral wards in Mumbai. This comes in the aftermath of the Supreme
Court (SC) asking it
to notify the schedule for the local body polls in two weeks.
Based on accounts, last week, the SEC had asked 14 municipal
corporations including the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to issue the
final notification on the new ward boundaries by May 17. Following this, the
process of drawing the reservation lottery and splitting the electoral roll in
each ward will commence.
BMC officials have been quoted in narratives elaborating on
how post receiving approval from the SEC, the civic body will conduct a lottery
for ward reservations that entails 50 per cent reservation for women candidates
as well as curate the voter lists.
It has been reported that recommendations and objections to
it will also be sought. The BMC had attained 816 recommendations and objections
on alterations in ward boundaries as well as the increase in wards to 236 from
227. In accordance with the new ward boundaries published, three new wards have
been made in the island city, western and eastern suburbs respectively.
In the majority of the cases, new wards have been made by
combining parts of two administrative wards. The exception wards are G south,
N, and R south which are Worli, Ghatkopar and Kandivali respectively.
Herein a new ward has been made in the existing ward.
