Flipkart and Amazon are India's biggest office space takers in H1

Ecommerce giants have made such a
fortune in the past few years that they have spread over large office spaces.
They have even outpaced IT firms in this sector. In 2013, the ecommerce sector
had funded $800 million while in 2014, this amount increased to a whopping $4.3
billion! This year, in the first six months, the funds have totaled to $1.8
billion. Over its eight years of functioning, Flipkart has raised a sum of $3.4
billion. Amazon has come to a close $5 billion. Flipkart and Amazon have been

The money raised by ecommerce companies has been utilized mainly in two areas – marketing and backend infrastructure. Flipkart has leased 3 million square feet in Bangalore, Amazon has leased 1.3 million square feet in Bangalore, Snapdeal has leased 5 lakh square feet in Gurgaon, Housing.com has leased 1.5 lakh square feet in Mumbai and Zomato has leased 1.2 lakh square feet in Guraon; thus, making Flipkart India’s biggest office space taker in the first half of the year, followed by Amazon. Knight Frank, a property research firm has confirmed that a total of 6 million square feet of office space has been leased by such companies!
