Fix: OneDrive is Missing From File Explorer in Windows 10

OneDrive is one of the essential parts of Windows 10. It is especially necessary for business users who use Office applications excessively. Sometimes, Microsoft cloud storage can cause issues for its users. One such issue is the mysterious vanishing of the OneDrive files and folder from the File Explorer.

In this article, we will show you solutions to fix this issue quickly.

Check if You are Synced with OneDrive

When your PC is not completely synced with OneDrive, then the OneDrive folder may not be visible in the File Explorer. Before trying to do anything, check if your PC is in sync with your OneDrive account.

Switch Local Account

Here are the steps to follow:

  1. Launch the Settings application on your device.
  2. Select Account and hit “Your Info.”
  3. If you have logged in with Microsoft Account, then select “Sign in with a local account instead.”
  4. Here you need to enter your Microsoft account details like username and passwords for authorization to make changes and then hit “Next.”
  5. Now select the “Switch to a Local Account” option and you need to type your local account credentials.
  6. Select “Next” to logout from Microsoft account and then login again with the new Account.
  7. Now you are logged in with a new local account, select “Settings” hit “Account” and select “Your Info.”
  8. Select “Sign in with a Microsoft account” and enter your details to log back in.

Remove OneDrive Entries from Registry

Here are the steps to follow:

  1. Tap Windows + R button on your keyboard to open Run.
  2. In the search field type “regedit” and tap “Enter” button on your keyboard.
  3. Select “Edit” and hit “Find.”
  4. In the find field type “OneDrive” and remember to select all the options in the “Look at” menu.
  5. Now select “Find Next.”
  6. When you have located the entries for OneDrive, you need to remove them and repeat all the steps.
  7. You need to repeat the above process until you delete all registry entries from your computer.

Keep Windows Up to date

Here are the steps to follow:

  1. Tap the Windows + I button on your keyboard to open settings application on your device.
  2. When the setting application appears on your screen, select the “Update and Security” button.
  3. Now you need to select the “Check for updates” option.
  4. If there are any pending updates available for your computer, you need to download and install it.
  5. After the above process, when your Windows is up to date, you need to open OneDrive to check if the issue persists.

Modify Registry

Here are the steps to follow:

  1. Tap the Windows + R button your keyboard and type “regedit” in the search field to open the Registry editor.
  2. Now enter the given command on your computer:
  3. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\OneDrive
  4. If you do not have this registry, then you have to create it manually.
  5. For that, right-click on the Windows button and select “New” and click on “key” in the menu.
  6. Enter “OneDrive” as a new name of your key and then open it.
  7. Now find “DisableFileSyncNGSC” in the right-side panel and then double-click on it.
  8. If it is not available, right-click on the space in the right-side panel and then select “New” and select “DWORD (32-bit) Value.”
  9. Now change the data value 0 and click “OK” to save your change.

Change the Group Policy

Here are the steps to follow:

  1. Tap the Windows + R button on your keyboard to open run and type “gpedit.msc” in the search field and tap the “Enter” button on your keyboard.
  2. In the left-side pane, find the “Computer Configuration” and hit “Administrative Templates” then click “Windows Components” and select “OneDrive.”
  3. Now double-tap on “Prevent the usage of OneDrive for file storage” to see properties.
  4. When the property window appears on your screen, set the value as “Not Configured” and then select “Apply” and hit “OK” to save your changes.

Operate the OneDriveSetup.exe File

Here are the steps to follow:

  1. Tap Windows + R button to open run and type “%localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\Update” and tap enter button on your keyboard.
  2. Now updates directory will appear on your screen, double-click on “OneDriveSetup.exe” and then follow the on-screen instruction to set up OneDrive.
