Five clichéd notions about remote work debunked

by alok v. Writer
Working within the four walls of private offices with rigid schedules of 9 to 5 is passé. With advanced technology, opportunities for flexible working options are endless today. Eclipsing the employment norms, remote work options are becoming a trend in India.

Despite its soaring popularity, telecommuting carries a lot of myths with it. Whether considering it as a side business or a full-time career, a lot of people remain skeptical about this type of work. Here are five clichéd notions about remote work, which aren’t just true:

1. Remote work is lonely
In remote working, people usually take up their tasks from home. This is why people have built a perception where telecommuting is an ideal path for introverts. Many also believe that remote work is lonely and bleak. However, it is far from the reality. Experts from Searchline Database, a work-from-home job provider, say that with an introduction of co-working spaces, this myth has been busted.

2. Remote work means less productivity
One of the biggest misconceptions about work-from-home jobs is that a person becomes less productive. Many also doubt that remote workers don’t put much hard work as there is an absence of supervision. However, most remote workers feel more productive in these jobs. Factors like no commute, fewer office distractions, no meetings, and others help employees focus on their tasks.

3. Less efficient meetings
A lot of people believe that virtual meetings are ineffective. Experts at Searchline Database, a date-entry remote jobs provider, are of an opinion that meetings in remote work are more efficient and productive. This is because remote meetings require advance preparation. Besides, employees in these meetings are all extra sensitive to varying time zones of others.

4. Ineffective communication
The time when communication in remote jobs could have been ineffective was in the 90s. Yet, some people still feel that communication in remote work is feeble. However, advanced technology has made it easier for these workers to collaborate with their managers. Besides, frequent communications inculcate a sense of belonging in the employees.

5. Excess of freedom
As remote work offers more freedom relatively, working from anywhere at any time becomes a common misconception. It is considered less professional by a lot of people. Although these jobs can be done in pajamas from any location, several employees strive to maintain a semblance of a normal life. Most of them also fix a schedule and work accordingly.
