Father of the bride speeches should not be a worry
by Fiorela Luca Senior SEO AnalystFather of the bride speeches are a
source of anxiety to many men. After all they may not be used to speaking in
public and they may be afraid that they will let their daughter down on her big
day. Then too they don’t really know what they are supposed to say or how they
should word that speech. For many men it’s a real challenge.
It shouldn’t be because basically
father of the bride speeches are about telling the audience that you love your
daughter and that you are proud of her and her achievements. They are about
telling how you felt when she was born and of incidents with her since then.
It doesn’t matter who is paying for the
wedding because nominally you are usually the host. So you welcome the guests
and say how much it means to your daughter and your son-in-law to have them all
there to share in their happiness. This is the time you make a mention of any
special guests, like a long-lost friend or a Godmother who flew halfway across
the world to be present at the wedding.
The most important guests of all are,
of course, the groom’s family and you will, naturally, welcome them. It is well
worth your while doing a little research on them so that you can mention that
you are looking forward to playing golf with a really good player or that you
will be looking out for a mention of the wedding of the year in the next book
written by one of them.
Wedding speeches should be sincere but
they should also be light-hearted. A mention of the chaos that preceded the
wedding is fine. So too is mentioning the fact that you decided that major
decisions on flowers and favours was best left to the women who excel at such
things
You will speak of the groom in glowing
terms and say that he is ideally suited to your daughter and that you are very
happy that she has found such a wonderful husband. You might like to give some
advice to the young couple as to what marriage should mean and how to go about
having a long lasting and a happy union.
Finally father of the bride speeches
should end with an appropriate toast to the happy couple. Do try to make it
personal to them rather than simply saying “Please join me in a toast to the
bride and groom”
