Exploring Mykonos

by Claire M. Working at Louis Hotels

Mykonos is known for its whitewashed Cycladic architecture, stunning coastline and cosmopolitan flare! It has attracted thousands and thousands of visitors from all corners of the world because of its amazing beauty, charisma and uniqueness! There is no other island like Mykonos. Enjoy your stay!

Mykonos capital town, also known as Chora is especially unique and differs from other Cycladic capitals as the town spreads over a large region and is not built amphitheatrically as the majority. It is one of the best examples of Cycladic architecture and a mesmerising attraction for tourists!

When in Chora, take a stroll along the narrow and winding cobble-stoned alleyways and admire the whitewashed homes decorated with charming and colourful doors and windows. Marvel at the purple and pink bougainvillea gardens in the courtyards of chapels. You also have lots to see and do!

While strolling, stop and visit the ample museums, churches and landmarks you find along your way. You should visit the ancient church Panayia Paraportiani, the famed 18th century Town Hall and the castle located above the island’s charming little harbour. Also don’t forget to stop by the Archaeological, Folklore and Maritime Museums to soak up the island’s rich history! The most famed and glamorous of all the streets is Matoyianni Street which is the ideal location to shop, wander and have a coffee at the multiple charismatic cafes.

Little Venice

One of the most scenic and romantic spots in Chora is Little Venice, an 18th century area where you will come across ancient seaside mansions, once owned by captains. The ancient buildings are decorated with colourful balconies which literally hand into the deep-blue sea! The area was named Little Venice as it resembles the marvellous city of Venice. Relax at a charming cafe by the shore and admire the glistening azure waters, colourful sunsets and quaint windmills in the distance. Simply fall in love with Mykonos!

Mykonos is a paradise for those of you looking to try your luck with water sports! Mykonos is also known as the island of the winds, and has attracted thousands of enthusiastic surfers and water sport lovers for many years. The best bays for those looking to engage in watersports are Korfos, Ftelia, Megali Ámmos and Kalafatis. For those merely seeking a beach to get active Ayios Stefanos is ideal for mini golfing and tennis, and Ayia Anna is the spot to play beach volleyball.  Elia and Kalafatis Beaches are well-known for parachuting and jet skiing! Also do not forget Mykonos wonderful underwater world! Explore the deep-blue of Mykonos and be dazzled by its unique beauty.
