Explore Some Renowned Places with Abu Dhabi Holidays

by Daisy Wilkinson Travel Guides

The glamorous capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Abu Dhabi is located on a T-shaped island and is a major cultural and commercial centre of the country. It gives you the opportunity to know more about the nation’s history and culture through its elegant museums, exhibitions, and mouth-watering traditional dishes. You’ll find plenty of offerings worth exploring in the Emirati capital during your holidays. You can also indulge in some exciting outdoor activities during your time spent in this part of the world.

Winter from November to March is the best time to be in this city. However, there is a heavy rush of tourists in this season and you’ll have to pay a hefty sum for hotel stays. Spring months of April and May would be the best times to enjoy cheap holidays to Abu Dhabi, as you’ll be able to secure some attractive deals on hotel accommodations. The reason for this significant reduction in room rates is a decrease in the number of tourists in the spring season. You can get accommodations at the lowest rates in the summer season from June to August, but you’ll have to be ready to endure the unbearable summer heat of the city. Autumn months of September and October are also ideal for visiting Abu Dhabi.

One particular attraction you’ll not like to miss during your Abu Dhabi holidays is the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. Opened in the year 2007, it is the most popular among all the attractions of the city. The mosque has been constructed by fusing the Mameluke, Fatimid, and Ottoman styles of architecture and contains some intricate carvings on its interiors and exteriors. With a capacity to hold about 40,000 individuals, it is the biggest mosque in the UAE. It took about 20 years to complete and is dedicated to the late president of the UAE, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan al-Nahyan.

If you wish to have an unforgettable cultural experience, visit the Heritage Village. It is located in a charming beach area of the city and offers a glimpse into the life of the Emiratis before the oil boom by replicating a typical Bedouin settlement. While exploring this attraction during your Abu Dhabi holidays, you’ll come across many interesting exhibits of traditional daily objects. You can also watch the demonstration of local metalwork and weaving skills given by the skilled craftsmen. The village also has displays that introduce its visitors to the pearl diving trade and agriculture, which were the main economic activities in this region before the discovery of oil.

A unique attraction in the city is the Abu Dhabi Falcon Hospital, which is the first-of-its-kind welfare institution for falcons in the world and offers annual check-ups for falcons. It operates under the patronage of the crown prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Since its opening in the year 1999, the hospital has become one of the major tourist attractions of the city and was also visited by the United States Ambassador to the UAE, Richard Olson, in 2010.
