Experts believe COVID-19 antibodies could last for only 2 months

According to the latest research by experts, COVID-19 antibodies, in some particular person, could last for only two months after getting infected from the virus through the pandemic. Antibodies are the proteins being produced by our body’s immune system that protects the person against reinfection. Chinese scientists and researches conducted this study related to antibodies and printed them in Nature Medicine.

The experts found that the antibodies of people, with the virus who never showed any of its symptoms, could weaken more rapidly than those who developed its symptoms and tested positive. Though the study is limited to just a little research, but it gives much information about the topic that confuses researchers while studying the virus.

Many people who recovered from the infection develop potent antibodies via their body’s immune system, though the duration and severity of that immune system remain unknown. Chinese scientists from Chongqing Medical University tested the immune response of 37 virus patients- who showed the infectious symptoms- in the district of Wanzhou. Forty percent of them came out negative for antibodies in the initial days of their recovery compared to the 13 percent of the people who demonstrated its symptoms.

Those patients who didn’t show any kind of symptoms also claimed about having the minor cytokines or about proteins being released by different cells due to infection. These proteins, when released, can result in hyperinflammation. That stats reveal that patients with no symptoms had a less immune response to the virus, thus pointing out the concerns of Anthony Fauci, the NIAID’s director, about molding antibody protection.

While giving an interview with JAMA Editor-in-Chief Howard Bauchner, Anthony Fauci states the response of antibodies is not uniformly parallel. Hence, it seems the virus shows different symptoms and effects from person to person and it can behave accordingly.
