EXPERIENCE

by Nestor Asiamah Creative Writer

It’s often said that ‘forget the past and focus on tomorrow’, but I tell you comrades: this viewpoint is faulty! Past experiences are unconceivable but are rich in lessons that we cannot afford to ignore. The day you decided to forget the unfavourable past experience was the day you pledged to repeat the mistake!

There is no teacher as efficient as ‘experience’! This forms the basis of the adage: ‘Experience is the best teacher’. Indeed, our experiences, whether favourable or adverse, are our daily counsellors. They offer a priceless service by guiding us away from deadlocks and accompanying us towards accomplishment. We cannot dispute the fact that bad experiences are negative auguries that would stir our feelings and stable state of mind in a way we would not like. Some come with extremely dire impacts on us and may appear, at a glance, as curses. Yet, an experience is a circumstance that teaches us a lesson based on how it affects our thinking and feeling.

Awful experiences are the fruitage of our negative actions, thoughts or association with others that leave a painful impact on us. The result of a bad experience, pain or ill-feeling, is a sensor that activates our thoughts to avert pain-striking situations in our future course of life. A bad experience is a platform for humankinds to mitigate the shortcomings of their thoughts, actions or faulty associations with people and channel their renewed actions towards desired results. A bad experience showing its ugly head in your endeavour means the ruining of the stability of your mind and the zeal you demonstrate as you pursue the finest dreams. Again, one of this situation’s weighty advantages is that it reminds you of decisions, actions and acquaintances that once resulted in bad omens.

Literally, good experiences are fortunes we will always yearn to encounter. They thrill us, shape our self-esteem and make us feel as though the world is a place of infinite delight. They put smiles on our faces and topple our enthusiasm towards achievement. In a better way, they are lesson avenues we have no reason to ignore or forget. In fact, keeping track of your good experiences gives you the opportunity to replicate heart-warming experiences that become an inherent part of your grand life accomplishment.

So if you don't honour and constantly acknowledge experiences in crafting daily decisions, you are an outlaw against yourself! In effect, you will certainly repeat fatal mistakes and lose sight of past actions that once culminated in expectations.
