by Anjali Gupta SEO Analyst, Travel Writer

Southern India has always been a favourite of tourists’, travellers and nature lovers, it is that part of India which reeks of beautiful locations and exquisite nature which is observed here at its best. Coffee plantations, beautiful hill stations, meandering rivers the Southern experience is one that will leave you wanting for more. One such place in India is Tamil Nadu which has the lovely district called Kanyakumari, the southernmost tip of India.

One of the very divine experience I had here was to witness the sun shower its glaring rays at the touch of Dawn, for this you could go to the view tower where you could also see the sunset in the evening.

How to get there:

Kanyakumari also known as Cape Camorin is majorly a pilgrim’s calling with many beautiful temples and revering places, but then there is much more to it than that, it has best architectures in the form of statues, constructive genius and even beaches. It is well connected to all major transportation like Railways and other road routes, there are many buses from the surrounding areas and states which would take you there, Trivandrum airport in Kerala, its neighbouring state, is the only nearest airport.

Landmarks:

One of the major landmarks in Kanyakumari are the temples called the Gandhi Memorial, Vivekananda rock Memorial and Kumari Amman temple which as per the Hindu beliefs was built after the Goddess Parvati who had prayed to Lord Shiva to marry her. Another very calm place to visit is Vivekanandapuram is run by Ramakrishna Mission which has a very interesting library.

Souvenirs:

Shopping in Kanyakumari is good in terms of souvenirs where you can take back small items made of coins, straws and seashells, and even accessories and jewelleries, they are very reasonably priced too.

Eat:

What you would find here in nearly all hotels and eateries are typical South Indian food like Idly, Dosa, Vada, etc., do not pin your hopes on very English and International kind of food, although Rajasthani and Punjabi food could be availed of in the respective restaurants.

Places to visit: Kanyakumari tourism

  • Gandhi memorial: this temple was built to memorialise Mahatma Gandhi, India’s freedom fighter and the temple was designed in such a way that the first rays of sun falls on the place where ashes of Gandhi was kept

  • Thiruvalluvar: it is the largest statue in Asia of a Tamil poet which stands at a height of 133 feet

  • Baywatch at Sunset point: this was the first water based park in the district and also the wax museum which was the first of kinds in India

  • Vivekananda rock memorial: this was built in the honour and memory of Swami Vivekananda who had visited the rocks for his meditation and was there for three days, here you find a segregated area for meditation meant for tourists

  • Mathoor hanging trough: this bridge is the largest bridge in Asia and recently the local government has built a children park and staircase to aid movement from the top of bridge to the bottom.

Kanyakumari tourism is blissful and reasonable, indulge in its beauty for a lifetime memory.
