Excavator Safety

by Wave Construction Construction
As the renter of the construction equipment, it is your duty to ensure the safety of the machine, operator, and workers who are on site. A machine as small as an excavator may not be able to cause as much damage as a crane, but it still poses risks to the people who aren't mindful of their surroundings.

Pre-operation basics

Workers should undergo sufficient training

Prior to a heavy equipment rental service in Philippines releasing their machinery, they need to train whoever is renting and the renters’ employees on the safety and operation basics of the equipment. Prevention is the key to smooth sailing on a construction site.

Clear the area

An excavator’s job is to clear the site of debris such as dirt, rocks, construction materials, and even trees, and transport said material to another area of the construction site. Clear the area of any unwanted material and workers on standby so it can do its job properly.

Not checking the area can lead to accidents. They always say it's better to be safe than sorry.

Fasten your seatbelts

Being in an excavator is more often than not a bumpy ride, and although the chances are slim, there's still the probability of getting thrown out of the carriage because of the undesirable terrain of a construction site.

Advise your operators to buckle their seatbelts, as they would in a car before they operate the equipment.

Post operation basics

Shut down the equipment on leveled ground

As much as possible, drive the excavator to a flat area on the construction site to prevent the worst case scenario of it rolling away. This will not only damage the machine but also put people’s lives at risk.

To do this, pull the handbrake first and then shut off the machine completely. Make sure it's in an area where it cannot move and cannot be moved out of place.

Lock up before exiting

Always in that order. Similar to what you'd do to a car, you need to lock the cab to prevent people from getting in and toying with the equipment. Secure the doors with the automatic locks and stow away the equipment.

Keep the bucket facing inwards when not in use

Leaving the bucket pointing downwards may damage the machine. The teeth will dull as it's at risk of scraping against the ground. Also, you will limit the number of accidents your workers run into if the bucket is curled inwards. The machine stays compact and is unable to snag on any clothing material or other construction equipment.

It is the prerogative of a company that offers construction equipment rental in Philippines to educate renters on the safety basics of the equipment they borrow. Keep into consideration that as the renter, it is your duty to properly respond to this prerogative.
