In this beautiful world, few things are as scary as you may think and Cancer is one of those. It is very terrifying medical condition involving abnormal cell growth in the other parts of the body. The disease can grow almost anywhere and spread into surrounding tissues.

When cancer develops, the cells get damaged without stopping called tumors, which are masses of tissue.  The cancerous tumors are malignant and the cell growth is out-of-control and these cells divide uncontrollably to form lumps of tissue.

In the medical term, cancer is also called malignancy - a serious health condition associated with an abnormal growth of cells. There are over 100 different types of cancer, but the most common types are those of the liver, bone, lung, breast, prostate, pancreatic, throat, brain, bladder, skin, colon, stomach, kidney, ovary, vaginal etc.

More dangerous tumors may develop inside the human body when two things occur:

  • A cancerous cell that manages to move throughout the entire body with the help of the blood or lymphatic systems. It destroys the maximum number of healthy tissue in a process called invasion.
  • When the cell manages to grow without stopping and continue to divide, making new blood vessels to feed itself, the process is called angiogenesis.

If we talk about the major signs of cancer, there are several changes in the patient's body, which cause for concern. Here're few early signs are an unexplained weight loss, a persistent fever, a cough or hoarseness that just won't go away, lumps in your skin, abnormal bleeding or coughing up blood as well as pain when urinating or blood in your urine.

Cancer can be cured if diagnosed at an early stage. Some of the most popular cancer treatments are chemotherapy, radiation, hormone therapy or immunotherapy and some combination of surgery. However, the cancer diagnosis begins after the proper physical exam and a complete medical history of the patient. Doctors trust on various tests including blood, urine, and stool in order to detect the symptoms indicating cancer.

Once the tumor is detected, there are several kinds of imaging tests such as X-rays, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), ultrasound, and fiber-optic endoscopy examinations will be performed by a team of doctors to identify the cancer's location and size.

During the treatment of cancer, several doctors also recommend the supportive therapy to provide emotional, psychological, and logistical support to patients. To improve the outcomes associated with cancer treatment, such supportive therapies prove very helpful and help in improving the quality of cancer patient's life.
