Embroidery Digitizing Secrets to Conquering Carpets

by Rishi S. Embroidery digitizing service

Carpets have always been a great way of adding some color and zing into any living space, besides keeping the floor clean. From proving to be a great welcome note to fine décor accent, carpets have a lot of uses in the home as well as commercial space. These days carpets are not only limited to their use in the home or office environs, but have also become an integral part of car, boat and yacht décor. Also, while these floor accessories work great in their plainer or colored versions, they can be decked up to include embroidered artwork for a fabulous personal statement.

From beautiful peonies to quirky images and funny one-liners, the world of customized carpets has come a long way, as has people’s imagination. So, this makes it absolutely necessary for the trend-forward digitizer to learn the ins and outs of decorating these beautiful creations. Whether it’s the shaggy variety or slip-proof kind, each and every carpet is stitchable. One only needs to be equipped with the right set of tools and the following tips to take the first step towards conquering the potential-filled world of carpets.

Tip 1 – Laying Down the Foundation

Getting the underlay right on carpets is one of the most critical elements for any embroidery digitizer. We suggest using a full lattice underlay with a .15 inch density. This will not only help catch and flatten down the nap, but also create a smooth surface for your embroidery to go on.

Tip 2 – Filling It Up

When putting on fill stitches on any carpet, we recommend using two low density fills instead of a single layer. Both these fills should be positioned at 90 degrees of each other and laid down at a density of 30 spi. This dual setting will help cover up the stitches and give you a smooth finish.

Tip 3 – Satin it Right

Whenever you choose to use satin stitches as part of your carpet embroidery, be careful not to go over .20 inches. Use a satin any higher and you’ll run the risk of stressing out the needles, which will lead to production delays due to frequent needle damage.

Tip 4 – Getting the Compensation

Getting the pull compensation right on your carpet is absolutely essential, so that you don’t end up disturbing/exposing the weave. We suggest an absolute .01 inch pull setting for best results.

Production-Time Advice

Although your work as an embroidery digitizer officially ends after handing over the digitized files, here are a few tips that’ll help you go the extra mile for your clients. Always recommend the use of sharp, 80/12 titanium needles, as these are the only kind that can withstand going through the tough carpet backing. When embroidering a plush carpet advice the use of topping, so that the nap or fiber doesn’t get caught. Also, suggest that the embroiderer keeps the machine speed at a minimum of 400 rpm, as any higher and it’ll be more stress than the machine can handle.
