Effective Email Marketing Strategies

by Alex Barker Content Wirter

Email marketing is one of the most effective, powerful and fastest means to reach out to the target market, boost client retention and generate a higher response rate without increasing costs. However, some businesses fail to use this marketing strategy to its fullest potential and end up in the ‘Trash Can’ or ‘Spam’ folder.

To use email as an effective tool, follow these email marketing strategies:

Manage Email Contacts Database

Before a business can send our marketing emails, it needs to have a list of recipients’ email addresses. These email addresses should be the ones that are currently being used by the recipient; otherwise the email will go waste.  Businesses should verified marketing email address to save time and money sending emails to people with the wrong information.

Attention Requires Permission

A business can only grab the attention of the recipient if they take the customer’s permission to send the email, otherwise it will be marked as spam. Although taking permission does not guarantee that the email will persuade the customer to take action, it does not make the client feel forced to do something.

Personalise

Personalising an email by greeting the recipient by name makes the reader feel important and valued. Rather than reading an email that says “Dear Customer”, people are more likely to be interested in an email that starts with “Dear [customer’s names]”. A critical aspect of personalised emails is responding to individual customer requests.

Make the Most Out Of the Subject Line

The subject line of an email is the most important part of the entire message. Here are a few tips to craft the perfect subject line:

Keep it clear and concise – try to use less than 50 characters to convey a CLEAR message.

Don’t use spam phrases – like win $$$ instantly, they get rejected instantly.

Personalize – focus on the key segment of your target market.

Responsive Design

People today are using mobile phone and tablets more often than laptops and computers to stay connected to the world on-the-go. This increases the need for an email to be designed responsively so that it can adjust itself to whatever screen size it is being viewed from.

Send at Opportune Times

Emails with the best open rates are read at night, especially between 8pm to midnight.

State a Clear Call to Action

Determine how you want your target market to act once they have read the email – do you want them to subscribe, call, purchase or do something else. Then state this ‘call to action’ clearly and visibly in the body of the email.

Track Effectiveness and Improve

Tracking and analyzing the success of an email helps businesses determine how effective their email marketing campaign is and enables them to improve and improvise their efforts to achieve better results.
