E-commerce Site Essentials

by Jeremy Banks Evolutesix
One of the most crucial factors when it comes to customers buying products or doing transactions online is website page design.

How cluttered it is, how difficult it is to navigate, even how mobile-friendly your features are – these have a role in the customer’s decision making process. Which is why it’s important that any e-commerce site, whatever line of business it may be there for, contain certain essential elements to help make the customer experience as best as possible.

Web Development

Pleasing Design

While the first thing that comes to mind when it comes to impressing customers may be to go all out with crazy interactive features and exciting moving banners, remember that it’s always best to keep things simple.

When your design is clean and uncluttered, it’s easier for the customer to focus on your site’s content and of course, your products/services.

Easy to Use

In relation to a pleasing design, a smooth user experience also means not making the customer have to crawl all over the website just to find the FAQ section or their cart.

Since e-commerce sites are all about getting transactions done, it’s important that the checkout process, from inputting shipment information to payment details, are all hassle-free. Imagine your customer getting ready to buy a bunch of items only to be turned off by how difficult it is to place their shipping address. What a waste, right?

No matter how impressively developed and designed everything else is, if it only leads the customer to becoming inconvenienced, you can kiss that conversion goodbye.

Guest Transaction Option

E-commerce sites typically have membership systems that make it easier for regular customers to check out with every transaction, but remember that all customers start out as guests, and it can be quite the turn off for interested customers to be required to create an account just to do a single transaction.

By providing a guest option with your site’s transactions, you spare your customers a lot of hassle and encourage them to come back, and eventually, they’ll realize how easier it would be to create an account on your site and do it of their own accord.

Mobile Optimization

A hefty percentage of internet users today do most of their online browsing on their mobile devices, this includes their online shopping as well. Again, it’s all about making things as convenient as possible for the customer, and it wouldn’t be so convenient for them to have to go online on a desktop unit just to do that one transaction.

By going mobile, you also get to jump in on the “on-the-go” lifestyle that modern consumers have today. Who knows, that next transaction you need may lie in one consumer getting bored while waiting for their lunch to get served.

Reliable content

Remember that all your customers have to rely on in terms of what they’re getting themselves into are your product photos/videos as well as your copy.

Providing clear, reliable product information, then, should be part of any successful e-commerce site. Not only because it’ll help encourage conversions, but because any business worthy of patronage should put effort into making sure their customers are being provided accurate information.

Website

Apart from these major factors, a whole lot of other components, like site maintenance and content updates play significant roles in the success of a website as well, not to mention other more technical matters like SEO and link building.

The best thing you can do to make sure your e-commerce site is at its best at all times is to leave it to reliable professionals who can make sure your site is always ready to greet that next customer.
