Don’t let your civil judgment go uncollected

by Alan M. Cohen LLC Debt Collection Lawyer in Boston

This is such a familiar story for so many Americans:

Someone owes you money and you take them to small claims or civil court. The judge passes a judgment in your favor, and yet you never receive the money owed to you.

Although the civil system is set up to allow you to recover money, that doesn’t mean it’s easy. The process can be time-consuming and frustrating – Especially when you’re dealing with a foreign judgment. Yes, the courts do offer you information about what your rights are as a debtor, but that information is often too generic – and of very little use, honestly.

So what does that leave you with?

The easiest way to recover your judgment is hiring a professional debt collection attorney. They have the expertise, experience, and resources to help you recover the amount you’re owed. If need be, they can pull a credit report on the debtor, and play private detective to put all of the pieces together – all in an attempt to help you recover your judgment.

Having a civil judgment in your favor is similar to having an IOU written. The money is yours, but it’s only a piece of paper if you don't do anything to collect it. The money is yours if you put in the effort to recover it. If you do nothing, the debtor wins, and it was ultimately a waste of time taking the person to court in the first place.
