Don't Believe the Hype: Common SEO Myths and Lies

by Fusion 360 Studios Digital Marketing Specialists

As so many companies in Utah and across the nation are becoming acquainted with the importance of SEO in today’s online marketing world, numerous myths have been spread across the community. These myths are not to be trusted, and can be highly damaging to your company’s online presence. These myths and misconceptions have become so excessive that it seems wise to only believe about half of what is posted online about SEO.

One of the most common SEO myths about websites is that the design of a site holds all of the SEO your company needs. Young companies adhere to this and neglect to include any strategic keywords and links in any of their other content like blogs or articles. It doesn’t matter of the concrete layout of a site is well-done and written with proper SEO terminology – include relevant links and keywords in all content that is posted that relates to your company.

Many young companies in Utah and across the country think that having one keyword is enough for strategic SEO – This is not the case. Google browses through millions of sites and articles in its index containing that exact keyword that it is essential to be more creative and use words that are unique to your company. Localized keywords such as “Utah” can be highly effective.

Even if your company is using numerous, creative keywords, there are still elements of SEO that are not to be overlooked. Contrary to these myths, localized citations and SEO are very beneficial. Don’t underestimate the power of your local community and get your company’s site featured and acknowledged on as many different sites and local Utah newspaper articles as possible.

For a long time, it was believed that in order for Google to recognize content it must be submitted to Google, and the creator of the content ought to sign up for Google Authorship. To rain on this optimistic parade, Google abandoned its authorship feature, thus the search engine no longer shows the byline nor the author photo in searches.

Just because this is digital advertising does not mean your content should be solely digital and cluttered with links to sites that aren’t highly relevant. Many companies have been fed a lie saying that more links are better than more content. This is not true – Add more keywords instead of more mediocre links.

Continuing to spread new rumors about unsuccessful SEO techniques, however, might be great technique for your company to maintain a high position in Google’s search index.
