Don't Attempt These Car Repairs at Home
by Roselands Auto Lakemba MechanicWe completely understand the temptation of wanting to learn to perform
basic car maintenance yourself, and while there are certainly things you can do
at home to help keep your car in tip-top shape, there are also without a doubt
some car repairs you should not do at home.
We know what you’re thinking, car repairs can get very expensive very
quickly, so why not pull up a YouTube video and do it yourself?
For a few very good reasons, actually! There are very good reasons why
mechanics exist and have to put in countless hours of education and training to
do what they do, and that is because having a skilled individual with
experience to back it up is always going to be safer than an amateur.
So let’s get right into the top three reasons you should not attempt car repairs at home.
Some Car Repairs Can be Dangerous
Some repairs can be dangerous, and sure let’s be honest, there are a few
things that you might as well do yourself if you don’t mind wasting a bit of
time and experiencing some possible frustration. Think of a windshield wiper
change or even changing a headlight, easy enough, right? The worst case
scenario is you try it yourself, and if it doesn’t work, you can bring it into
a shop.
As a rule of thumb though anything beyond that, especially anything that
requires you to jack up the car or handle heavy machinery or equipment should
be left to the professionals.
Some repairs are extremely dangerous and for the safety of yourself (and
those who share the road with you) you would do much better to go to a trained mechanic, be it in Kingsgrove or Earlwood Mechanic needs to handle the
tough stuff.
You May Make the Problem Worse
You could end up making a cheap and easy fix into a complicated and
costly one. The thing about experience is that it gives a knowledge base of
problems and their solutions.
To the untrained eye, we could see something not work and then spend
hundreds of hours trying to fix it, whereas a seasoned mechanic has likely seen
the issue before and already knows exactly how to solve the issue. Not only
will they know exactly how to fix it, but they will also have all the right
tools and equipment to get it done quickly and safely.
You May Put Your Vehicle at Risk
A bad repair could put you, your loved ones and others at risk. Say you
decide you’re going to rotate your own tyres, but you’re not quite sure of the
process- you get it all done and think it looks right, but really you didn’t
tighten the bolts well enough because you don’t have the proper tools. Then a couple
days later your tyre flies off causing an accident, even if everyone is okay
the cost to insurance and stress of the situation is best avoided.
So the next time you think about tackling certain car repairs – ask yourself are you really qualified and experienced enough to carry them out? If in doubt – leave it to the experts!
