Discover All The Benefits Of Linux Servers

by Pravin Ganore Subject Matter Expert (SME-SEO & SMM)
From the beginning, Linux was designed as a system to be used on servers. What it was observed later that before the huge success that the system has achieved and the enormous stability it provided to the servers, the system turned out to be also used in desktops and consolidating its place in the heart of a nerd legion in love with it.

Nowadays, Linux is widespread in many devices, but it is still true to its origins. In order to understand what a Linux server is, it is necessary to understand first, what is a web server. This nomenclature is used to set the machines to "carry the Internet in the back." After all, they are the true responsible for the custody and provide access to the wonderful information that the Internet has. Thus, the server stores information of websites, process user requests and perform the connections requested worldwide.

In this universe, servers based on Linux are used to host websites and applications and deliver them to the web users. Make the necessary settings for a Linux server is considered as a complex task by a majority of people. The little knowledge of the system, makes people be afraid to use this system which is still reserved for a group of "insiders". Something that in practice, and totally unfounded.

Almost all offered distributions that can be configured as a server and, as always use the same services (BIND, Apache, MySQL and others), you change just the way the installation is done. They are normally found in two types of servers for web hosting : Linux servers (as we have shown) and servers with Windows operating system. But what to consider when choosing between one or the other? Which one is best?

For this evaluation it is necessary to understand that the Windows operating system-based servers are able to run apps made for that system and still achieve a good performance and interaction with applications developed in languages and Microsoft technologies. Thus, if what you want is to use platforms created by Microsoft; make your choice for Windows-based servers; especially if you want to integrate with back office tools like Microsoft FrontPage, Microsoft Access or Microsoft SQL. You can also run applications developed in ASP (Active Server Pages), Visual Basic scripts, etc ...

On the other hand, Linux servers have the strong preference from the business corporate clientele. This is because of the great strength and the known resistance to high rates of traffic and "Server loads". In addition, Linux servers are recognized worldwide as having a large capacity in the management and maintenance of large amounts of simultaneous traffic without failure. Not only that, when it comes to Internet servers, it is a key point for the choice of Linux servers. After all, the guarantee of support for a huge amount of traffic without failure, is more time "uptime", which translates into longer with the site "in the air". And that means, in practice, more sales and more money in the coffers of companies. A Windows-based server will present many difficulties to support and manage heavy traffic for a long time and need help long before a Linux-based server.

Reliability and robustness, high performance allies are the reasons to support the choice of Linux servers to host websites. It's more than enough to put Linux servers well ahead in the preference and hearts of customers of hosting companies worldwide.
