Dim Laptop Screen Troubleshooting

by Gloria Philips Expert Blogger

Only to watch darkness, you wake up one morning and open your laptop screen, but the machine is turned up since the fans can hear the noise. As you ponder what is wrong, panic immediately sets in. You can see a faint picture of what is on your display if you look closely, and when you shine a lamp on it, practically all pictures and text are shown.

This is a fairly frequent problem for laptop displays, and usually there are only two possible causes of it: the backlight screens have failed or the inverter of the back light has failed. The back light is essentially a fluorescent lamp, which lightens it up sufficiently behind your screen to view everything clearly. These bulbs may occasionally go bad that causes the screen of your computer to become black. The second probable reason, the inverter of back light, is the same as back light itself, when it goes badly. The inverter is intended to convert the DC power of your laptop battery back to CSA, which your rear light need to function. If the inverter is wrong, the correct voltage is not sent to the rear light, which does not illuminate it. Sometimes, there are techniques to decide if the only way your screen works is your backlight to blame or the inverter to blame. Usually, when a back light goes wrong, the backlight won't illuminate, or the screen in a reddish tone will illuminate, which might normalize when your laptop is used, it's simple to diagnose whether you experience the reddish tint by excluding the video card. If you want to rule out your video card, just connect to the VGA connection on the back or side of your laptop on an external screen. If you don't observe any distortions of color as you have previously after connection to an external monitor, your back light should be changed, your video card should be broken if you still observe the same distortions on the external screen. If an inverter goes wrong, it's very typical initially to become worse and you can keep your screen light for a short time before being sloped and then light up again after restarting and then get sluggish again in a short period. However, these principles should not be followed alone in order to obtain an exact diagnosis. Instead, they have more common symptoms. You must test your inverter and rear light to obtain a precise diagnosis. There are special tools to test the inverter, but they may be rather costly. I would not advocate checking the inverter with a voltmeter, as there might be a pretty high voltage delivered by the inverter.

For first of all, you need to have a new laptop with a completely operating screen, which you do not mind opening, to test your backlight and inverter. They need not be the same model or even brand, as on all laptops, the connections are usually the same.

You now have to access the screen of your laptop. To achieve this, take a flat head screwdriver on the screen and stick it on wax paper onto the side to conserve the stick. Then remove all the screens and leave them in a secure location. Then put them away. Do this and the following step on your laptop which works to test the damaged laptop.

Run your finger beneath the bezel and remove the bezel all over the screen.

Once the bezel has been removed, you should see at least 2 cords come out of the little board at the bottom of the screen. The inverter is this. One cable is provided by the base of the laptop and the inverter with DC power. The remaining cables come out of the display and connect to the back light (s). If your laptop has several back lights if you see more than one cable connected to your inverter from your screen.

Once your damaged laptop is revealed, as well as your laptop displays, we will test the reverse converter on the damaged laptop. Remove the cable(s) from each monitor to the inverter on both computers. To do so. Do not delete the cord from the inverter laptop base. Put the two computers extremely near and put the back light cord in the inverter of the test laptop into the damaged laptop. Switch on both laptops. You have to repair the inverter on your corrupted laptop if you can see everything on the damaged laptop as bright as normal and it does not fade again after a short time. You finished diagnosing the problem at this point. If the damaged laptop screen continues to be weak, and just a faint outline of the things can be seen on the screen yet, you must replace your backlight(s).

We don't want to stop there, however. In order to ensure that the inverter is not replaced, we also must test the damaged laptop. To do this, make sure you switch off both computers and disconnect the broken back light plug from the inverter of the test laptop. Now connect the test laptop to the damaged inverter of the laptop.
