Differentiate proxy and proxy server

By using a proxy anyone can access any blocked social networking web site because in many countries social networking web sites are blocked like facebook and YouTube. The one way to access these web sites are using proxy.

Proxy is a software that support the http proxy protocol. It is a very simplest form of proxy that exchange the data from one computer to another computer, it like an intermediate server that forward information between two computers. A proxy is acts like a middleman between the host computer and server. The proxy server have a huge variety of security features, if you have access the internet from the office environment some chances are that your communication are passed from the proxy. There are a lot of advantages of using proxy, a proxy have also a cache of previous requests which can save bandwidth.

A proxy server work like that is used to access web pages by other computers. When another computer request a web page, it is retrieved by the server and then sent to the request client using the web server. The server have a caches for example if a user accesses a page and another user access that same page then instead of sending two same request to the server, the proxy server remember the accessed page and delivers the content without sending request to the web server. That’s way proxy server is more efficient and can easily handle any process.

Proxies are totally anonymous from hackers and normally proxies have a very short life time, typically 12 hours. Proxies are helps to reduce the security threats. The task of proxies are, as a rule, is information caching and support of internet access for several computers via single connections.
