by Jennifer Wise Executive
If you’re thinking of including a silver chain in your jewelry design than you may want to know about the various type and styles of chains that you can use.

Below are the different styles of chains that you can incorporate in your design:

Cable chain
This traditional link chain may be the most common type of chain that you would have been familiar with for years.  They have a uniform construction with oval-shaped links interlocked together to form a classic jewelry chain.

Curb chain
Curb chain is made up of links that have been twisted & flattened. They interlock together tightly to form the chain. Curb chains are most popular in fine formations at around 1mm and much chunkier variations which are ideal for use as silver necklace chains.

Figaro chain
It is a type of cable chain that has variable sized flattened links. It usually consists of a few shorter links divided by a longer link and comes in different sizes and thicknesses. Its unique appearance has made it a popular choice, especially for men’s jewelry.

Ball chain
Ball chain is made up of tiny silver balls which are uniform in shape and size. Linked with short lengths of silver wire, each ball is hollow and has two small holes on side to thread the wire. These chains are perfect for use with small pendants.

Trace chain
It is a delicate chain which consists of little oval-shaped links. The trace chain is excellent for delicate charm necklaces, with lightweight pendants.

Belcher chain
Also called as Rolo chain, this is a type of trace chain consisting of D-shaped links that are broad and uniformly sized and shaped. Belcher chain is available in different sizes, making it a popular choice amongst jewelry designers.

Rope chain
It is made up of links that have been woven together to form twisted, rope-like lengths of chain. There are many designs used to create more complex variants of rope chain, and as they such a delicate design, they are usually worn in somewhat larger sizes making the chain itself the main attraction.

Box chain
Also called as Venetian chain, they are made up of a series of cubed links. It is constructed using round silver wire that is later flattened and shaped into a row of cubical shapes are linked together to create a sturdy chain that is smooth in appearance and a perfect choice for adding large pendants.

Snake chain
Also referred to as Brazilian chain, they are a popular choice for among jewelry designers as a standalone chain or with a pendant. They are made up of slightly curved silver plates tightly woven together with thin links to form a chain. These chains have a smooth surface and are very flexible making them suitable at a variety of lengths with or without a pendant.
