Different Types of Sets in Volleyball

by United Volleyball Club Sports
Club volleyball in Seal beach and Huntington Beach is a volleyball program that runs from approximately December 1 through April/May.  Volleyball clubs near me will practice approximately 2-4x per week and play anywhere from 6-12 tournaments on weekends, depending on the club.  Some clubs also offer weight training and optional skills clinics, and open gyms play as part of their package.  Club volleyball is not a league where a team plays weekly matches against other clubs.

You need to know that there are different types of sets in volleyball. Volleyball sets fall into three different categories. These include:

Slow sets (also known as third tempo sets)

This type of set is incredibly popular among volleyball beginners. The set can be done by volleyball players of all skill levels. The ball should be set high in the air. Also, a ball should have a slow trajectory. When the ball is set this way, a hitter should aim to carry out an attack hit when the ball is at the high point. From this position, hitters usually find it easy to send the ball down forcefully and land it on the opposite side of the court. A volleyball hitter must start getting ready for an attack hit in advance. A hitter should approach the hitting place before a setter makes the contact with a ball. It is worth noting that the opposing team’s blockers usually find it easy to resist attacks after

Second tempo sets

Second tempo sets are faster comparing to the slow tempo setting. That is the reason why the set of this type is recommended to experienced volleyball setters. The ball is set when the attack is planned near the net. A hitter must be able to approach the attack place quickly because it does not take a ball too much time to land on the court. What is great about second tempo sets is that blockers find it difficult to prepare for attack hits and that is why resisting attacks can be hard. Second tempo sets are recommended when the ball needs to be set to the middle hitters and the outside hitters.

Fast sets (also known as first tempo sets)

Fast tempo sets are recommended to experienced setters as well as hitters. Both hitters and attackers must act very quickly and professionally. A hitter must start moving towards the ball ahead of time. A volleyball hitter must start approaching the place of an attack once the ball is passed to a setter. Blockers usually find it hard to resist an attack hit after fast tempo sets. Oftentimes, defensive volleyball players must dig to resist an attack hit.

If you are going to play on the setter’s position, then it would be better for you to master different types of sets. Now, they will take a closer look at each type of setting.
