Dehydration is the Same as Drunk Driving

by Nika Brown Student

A new study supposes that dehydration of a driver at the wheel is the same as drunk driving.

.

According to the study, drivers who took only 25 ml of water per hour, made as many mistakes as drunk drivers. There were twice as many mistakes in both cases in comparison with drivers taking enough water.

Loughborough University study published in the journal "Physiology and Behavior", proves that the changes were evident among those who were moderately dehydrated. Professor Ron Maughan, Emeritus Professor of Sport and Exercise Nutrition says, "The survey results show, dehydration is "undervalued danger" for drivers."

In his interview with Daily Telegraph, he says, "All of us oppose drunk driving, however we often forget about other factors making impact on driving skills. One of them is dehydration and lack of water. Needless to say, drunk driving or on drugs is a great danger, however our findings shed light on the hidden dangers. We insist on the need to maintain the water balance of driver's organism ".
