Content Types that are used for TV Commercial

The television advertisement is one of the best ways to promote one’s brand among the target audience. But it is found that all kinds of television commercials do not come up with appropriate content. It is the responsibility of every advertising company and TV commercial production companies to air the advertisement of their product or service in such a way that it does not hamper the children.

In most cases, it is seen that all TV commercials that are aired on television are not suitable for the children although it may be effective for the adults. In the research study “Psychology of popular media culture”, Lourdes P. Dale used and created a coding system. This coding system is used to look at both positive and negative content of TV commercials that are usually aired on a different television channel. The following are the various types of content that are aired as the TV commercial:

● Positive content: There can be various types of positive content that the TV commercial productions companies can use while advertising their product or service. These types of positive content can educate the public and do not hampers the children in any way.  Some of them are:

●Positive role modeling: Some video advertisement can have content that encourages people to do something positive as portrayed in the advertisement.

● Moral message: A storytelling advertisement with a moral message can enhance moral values in people.

● Health or Medical benefits: Advertisements that are related to the food or health products are generally aware people about their health and medical benefits.

●Advances in Research: Advertisements of latest products also delivers knowledge about advanced research done in recent days or in the past.

● Negative content:
Negative content can be inappropriate for children. The following types of TV commercial can be negative or inappropriate:

o Violent behaviors: There can be various violent behaviors such as physical evidence of preceding violence. These types of negative content can harm individuals or animals or destroy the property.

o Disturbing behaviors: Sometimes distributing behaviors can also have a negative consequence. These can be a natural or artificial disaster, unexpected or probable accidents, and graphic bodily disintegration.

o Sexual behaviors: When sexual behaviors are shown on television it can have a negative influence on children. For example, inconspicuous nudity implies sensuality, intimate touching, any kind of sexual foreplay or intercourse, and verbal or non-verbal sexual communication can seriously affect the children.

o Negative modeling: Negative modeling can produce a negative effect on both children as well as an adult. For example, smoking cigarette, chewing tobacco, drinking alcohol, etc. are some kind of negative modeling that can produce a very negative consequence.

Thus, it is very important that all the production houses NYC should be aware of which type of content is appropriate and which is not. So, it is essential that while creating the advertisement the advertising company should give immense importance to their content. It should not only consider their commercial benefits but also take the responsibility of society.
