Contemporary Wall Art - Not Just For Modern Interiors

by Rebecca Bowen Freelancer Writer

It is time to realise the potential of wall art for interior decoration and understand how to choose the best suited colour scheme and style for your house or work space.

The general accepted idea used to be that modern or contemporary art could only be used for modern interior schemes. However more and more designers and individuals, with a taste for this beautiful art form, are using it in traditional or classic interiors. This approach has an amazing effect on the chosen rooms it has been selected for by accentuating the contrast of style and appearance of the décor. Mixing interior schemes tastefully used to be a best kept secret within the designer's inner circles. However with the increasing availability of contemporary wall art, which can now be bought in various cost-effective formats such as framed or unframed art prints, canvases or wall murals, interior schemes can now be refreshed quickly and without costing the earth.

With the advance of technology, choosing art has now become a lot easier and faster than before. Many consumers can now browse images on their mobiles or tablets while on the move, with less problems relating to connectivity or loading times. The great thing about contemporary wall art is that it can help add a real splash of colour and instant style to a neutral scheme (whether modern or traditional) and lift the whole room.

However if traditional wall art formats are too small for your desired effect and if you wish to add the "wow factor" to your room, then you should consider a wallpaper mural. Murals can make a real statement about you and your interior and they are guaranteed to be a conversation starter as anyone coming into the room will be drawn to the image. There are many designs available which range from original art work impressions, retro designs, wild life photography and abstract art forms. However if choosing a mural, there are a few things to be taken into consideration: your preferred theme and the look and feel you are trying to achieve: do you wish to have a "view" to look at or add texture, depth or colour? The size of the room is also important: if you are dealing with a small room, then think about adding depth with your image rather than have a close up shot which will make it look even smaller. There are many online firms who offer good quality wallpaper mural collections but make sure you choose a company which proposes bespoke sizes for your wall.
