Connect the Dots and Strong Your Networking Skills

by John Smith Learner

If you're new to the concept of owning your own business or just starting out in a job with a performance-based pay plan, there are a lot of worries that come with getting started. In fact, the fear of not making enough money has dominated my entire thought process. This is what I learned after 28 years of self-employment. You cannot attend networking events or self-host groups. People may get the impression that your intentions are purely selfish and are unlikely to tell you the time of day.

The Crossword generator can help you to paraphrase the phrase people don't care what you know until they know you care. When you come in with a "how can I help you succeed" attitude, the "barn" welcome is very different. Have you ever felt a click or at least seen it as a click? Most likely, these are people who have dealt with each other and formed a relationship. You too can be a part of this group. The click part is your perception. If they are from the TRUE network, they will be happy to welcome you to their strong pool of partners. So let's say you're at a group or networking event in Leeds and you meet Tony.

Tony sells HVAC systems and is also a geothermal heating and cooling specialist. He says his best referral was to an architect who was building a particular house and was referred to him early in the development. First ask Tony if he would have a good referral, your work is not done yet. You must play Connect the Dots. You can arrange a three-way call or suggest a meeting for both of you. Networking requires more than just giving a name. Then you should go ahead and see how the connection works. You meet someone who sells green building materials.

You think about your husband's brother again, but this time you think about how the HVAC guy would benefit from knowing this person. Common sense would be that if he deals with energy efficient energy saving systems, he would also be very interested in reuse or sustainable components in the construction industry. How does it get back to you? It's not, and that's okay, remember word of mouth isn't about you. It's about connecting the people you meet with the people you know for a win-win situation.

Remember, it's not all about what you get. You just did a great job bringing together 3 people who will be able to grow their business and who won't get to know each other if you don't give them time to get to know each other. I guess you could compare it to a "blind date". Not all of them turn out well and mercifully, the people you create may not take you on your "blind date". If you plan to help others succeed, your turn will come. It's that simple, and not always from those who might expect it.

Establish yourself as a great networker and people will respect you incredibly and be happy to introduce you to people they know. What you submit will come back to you, but not necessarily what the people who sent you think of you. You must remember

Again, we all have our circles of friends, and because of your example of grouping people together, they may hear of someone who could use your product or service, and because you've contributed to their success. Thinking about helping them makes you more present.
